• Gaming PC Build $700 Budget

I need all of the parts you see in the pictures to be included with this build. The budget is $700. I would like to be able to run Empire: Total War, ArmA 2, and World in Conflict on high settings with no lag. Here is my build so far. I am now $100 over budget witch is unnaceptabe. I was wondering if I could cut down in any way. EDIT: I editied John's Build with a quad core CPU (for future proofing) and a different set of RAM (the one he suggested is out of stock). I also added a 4870 that I'm hoping to overclock a bit. What do you guys think? EDIT: I've added a wireless card. Mainly what I'm looking for now is if everything is compatible and how I can get the price down at least a little bit.
You could easily cut out the last bit with Windows Vista. If I were you, I'd drop Vista and download the Windows 7 RC from the Mircosoft website. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/download.aspx This will let you spend a little more on a better harddrive with faster RPM. Or bump up your processor to: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103675 I would also look into cooling for that quad core processor. But you can test yourself to see if the stock heatsink will keep it cool enough under stress.
Windows 7 RC1 will start shutting off periodically next year. I want the acuall thing. [editline]09:42AM[/editline] Also, will it be able to run those games on high?
This lets you have $100 extra to spend on bumping up a few of those parts, and also gives you a whole YEAR to accumulate enough money to buy Windows 7. I would get either XP(will be missing out on DirectX10), or Windows 7(some program compatibility issues, but can be fixed by running it in compatibility mode). ON A TIGHT BUDGET, buying an OS is rather silly to me. It's money that can be used to get MUCH better performance out of your build.
Dude, the copy of Vista I'm buying comes with a coupon for Windows 7 for free...... All new copies of Visa have this.
Juebi, you're a fucking moron and you don't know jack shit about Vista. It's called SuperFetch, It uses RAM efficiently to decrease loading times of programs you use most, and frees up RAM when other programs need it. Windows 7 uses the exact same thing. So jump off your :bandwagon: because you've clearly never even touched Vista and buying an OS is silly? Well, let's just have £300 in components, put them together and stare at the BIOS for a few months. What a wonderful use of money.

I just noticed there's supposed to be pictures in the OP I don't see them, at all
Sorry Let me rehost them.
After this week I don't think you can download Windows 7 RC.
Pics rehosted.

I'm sorry if I haven't looked into the technical details behind the usage of more than half my total RAM on idle. Windows 7 idles a little above 512MB for me, so I assumed there was some technique for freeing up RAM that Windows 7 uses that is a step up from Vista. Reading all about the flaws of Vista as it was coming out, I probably was on the bandwagon. From personal experience and informative reading, I was able to judge for myself what was the best to use. I still don't see the problem with finding a key for Windows 7 RC. It lasts for a whole year. To get max performance out of a PC, I find it good to start fresh by reformatting every few months, so it'd be more beneficial to use money on better parts now, then you can worry about dropping a few hundred on a license.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136178 $5 for much better speed and IMO a better brand
Newegg just released a pretty sick combo deal for just under your budget. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.239582&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL082009&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL082009-_-AMDbundle-_-L0A-_-Combo239582 It's 719 but $40 in Mail in Rebates sooo :).

I got this email this morning, and I was going to post it here, but thought it was too over budget. I think the FINAL price you'll end up paying is more than $700, but the mail in rebates should bring it below $700.

What the fuck. I payed the exact same price as that deal for worst. God damnit newegg I wish that deal was out when I was deciding on my computer.
You should drop the 4890 and get 2 4830s instead. You'll also need a xfire mobo like here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131381

The build you said isn't 609, its $579.34. On top of that, I'd like a HDD with more than 320 gigs. [editline]10:36PM[/editline] How about this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136178
that works
Why did everyone post something with a 4890 in it, except for John? And he didn't post a GPU. There is such a small difference from the 4870 and the 4890, that you could just overclock the 4870 to the 4890's clock and have that difference. Plus, that's $50+ for a 1-2FPS difference. And if the FPS are at 100-200 in Source games, you won't notice it. At all.
I don't know how to overclock. But I see what you are saying and if I learned how to I would try it.

For the combo deal it's fucking worth it I don't care if you're getting a minimal FPS increase that's a killer deal. John posted that deal to so whatchu' talkin 'bout.
So should I go with John's build or the combo deal?
It all depends on what you want. You can buy the killer deal now and you'll have a top-notch computer or you can wait 'till sept. 10 for the ATi 5xxx cards.
Not bad but drop vista and wait for 7
When you get Vista (I believe Home Premium+), you get a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out.
