http://www.fcc.gov/document/fcc-plans-640k-fine-against-att-unauthorized-operations
We propose a $640,000 penalty against AT&T Inc. (AT&T) for apparently operating numerous wireless stations throughout the United States without authorization over a multiyear period and failing to provide required license modification notices to the Commission. Through its subsidiaries, AT&T operated numerous common carrier fixed point-to-point microwave stations at variance from the stations’ authorizations for periods ranging from approximately three and a half years to five years. As a sophisticated Commission licensee, AT&T should have reviewed its newly acquired licenses in a timely manner to ensure that it was operating the stations within the terms of their authorizations. We take this action as part of our duty to prevent unauthorized radio operations from potentially interfering with authorized radio communications in the United States and to facilitate the efficient administration of the radio spectrum. AT&T’s apparent violations continued for a number of years, including for a substantial time after it should have become aware of its unauthorized operations, thus warranting a significant penalty.
FCC is pwning now!
this is cost of doing business tier, unfortunately. Wish they would just go harder with the fines for once, it may hurt business in the short term but if companies are regularly breaking regulation intentionally that's a bigger problem.
I'm going to be very pessimistic here and say FCC is doing token actions (and lets face it 640k is pennies) that will get us on their side and then do something horrible with it. Wheeler was a cable lobbyist after all.

I wonder if Wheeler's current lack of a lobbying salary might be why he's no longer acting like he did before he was the FCC chairman? He doesn't necessarily owe them any debts. $640k is chump change to these guys, though.
The FCC, in my opinion, is the most public-minded and generally good government organization that we have.

Fines should scale with the size of your business. Yeah, losing $640,000 unnecessarily sucks but that's like losing a twenty when you're a millionaire.
honestly as long as atnt loses money im happy. Theyre a bunch of assholes, not to mention non cooperative ect ect
