It's not really an issue, but for me who is used to a gray background it is. I've skimmed through all the options and I can't find a fix. Any help?
Have you used Photoshop on a mac before? All the CS5 applications (correct me if I'm wrong) consist of floating toolbars with a detached panel which holds the currently open document.
In the menu bar click Window>Application Frame
I prefer it, looks much cleaner to me
In the menu bar click Window>Application Frame
Thanks, man!
You can also click f to go fullscreen.
On a slightly off topic note, is it possible to have the floating panels in windows as shown in the screenshot ?
Well, if you have CS5 you can restore it from maximized, make all the panels hover (by clicking on the button on the top of each) and then resize the photoshop window to only stretch to the menubar while maintaining full horizontal width.
I always avoid photoshop on a mac because it's unusable with floating toolbars. [editline]10:00PM[/editline] didn't know there was a fix
Why would it be unusable? It's perfectly usable.
Why would it be unusable? It's perfectly usable.
Because the grey is incredibly useful. Floating toolbars make every program a piece of shit. Office on a mac is horrible too.
How?
You don't accidentally drag around documents, they're in one place. You also have tabs between docs so easy mouse navigation. The space really helps people who know how to use it because they can see the edges of their document without dicking around. It allows for slightly larger documents too because you can actually maximize properly.
This is the reason I do not like Gimp.
I like keeping everything in a frame. It keeps me organized. I hate when things are detached because I feel like stuff is getting cluttered. When it's in a frame they are part of a whole unit. Strange reasoning but whatever.

You are aware that you can click f and this problem goes away? Or you can make use of Spaces? Or you can click inside the window? I just don't understand your complaint. Your clutterphobia seems to be some sort of personal issue, I doubt it affects the quality of the software.
All you need to do is drag your window to the top of the toolbar and it snaps in place

Click inside window what? Try hand painting on a mac after experience on a pc. You'll be outside the document fucking up in seconds. I never said it was software quality I'm saying that programs are harder to use on a mac.
Pressing F makes photoshop go fullscreenish, like it does on a PC. They aren't harder to use if you are competent :\
Yeah f is the same function. Does it have the grey space take up the whole screen? If so, cool I'll use it. I use a mac all day every weekday and it's overall been a horrible user experience. Finicky all the way, though I luckily get to use XP on most of them.

I've got the impression that Mac's was supposed to be easy, so "You're not used to change." is a little outside the normal Mac-reasoning box.
I have to say I don't really mind it. I ne'er maximise anything on Mac, always do on Windows. No idea why.
I've got the impression that Mac's was supposed to be easy, so "You're not used to change." is a little outside the normal Mac-reasoning box.
Well online banking is easier than telephone banking but lots of people don't like change because they know their old system so well and are very comfortable with it. The two go hand in hand. You need to drop your anchor to what you are used to before you can appreciate anything new.
You're not used to change
That's a horrible argument that isn't even applicable to me seeing as I'm all about change. It's not about change, it's about ease of use. And as far as my work field goes, it's harder to use a Mac than it is than use Windows.
And what field is that?
3D
Clicking the background minimizes the software. WORKFLOW SLOWED x 10! Not knowing what is Photoshop windows and image preview windows causes confusion. WORKFLOW SLOWED x 2!
Ah so you are intelligent enough to manipulate 3D objects in photoshop but cannot fullscreen the application... Intriguing.
