I'm looking to upgrade my gpu since it's kind of old and I have some spare money. I was looking at the 760 (specifically the MSI Twin Frozer 760) but since AMD are releasing their new cards (don't know when) I've been kind of reconsidering. At the moment my budget is around 300.
Specs are 2600k oc'd to 4.5 GHz, 16 GB of RAM and a MSI 6970. I am running 3 monitors if that is worth mentioning.
if you meant i5 2500k CPU then if I'm honest id upgrade your motherboard and cpu as your on sandy bridge at the moment and you'll benefit more from the new motherboards for feature upgrades and the haswel CPU is a lot more powerful than sandy.
but otherwise id wait for the new AMD GPU's to see what they have or get a 7970 as its a lot better than the 760 and only costs a few £ more.
To be honest... if AMD's new cards are better than the 700 series (some sites are saying the 280x is just a 7970 GHz Edition rebrand) then I'll get that but at the moment I'd prefer a Nvidia card irregardless if AMD's new cards are better. As far as my cpu and motherboard.. I'll be upgrading them in the next couple of months.
The CPU and motherboard are actually still great. I would wait until broadwell comes out to upgrade. The 760 is a good GPU, but I agree that the 7970 is a much better choice. I wouldn't stick to brand loyalty over getting a good GPU. AMD's driver issues with CFX have pretty much been fixed, and the only other issues stem from specific games (and some specific games also have problems with Nvidia cards, so it doesn't really matter).
I would wait on AMD's new set.
As shattered said, wait for AMD's new line. SB is fine ATM, especially the i7.
