My friend has 8Gb iPod touch, prob 2gen then, and I'm about to get one. So HOW do I jailbreak it, and with what. There are so many jailbreak guides, software and likes and dislikes that must ask you pros frist, what is the best way to do this? :tinfoil:
Blackrain. If you are getting a 2nd gen, It will be easier to jailbreak that.
Yeah just plug it in, load blackra1n, hit "Make it ra1n" and wait for the ipod to restart. 2nd gen isn't easier it just means the ipod will not be tethered like the new generation would be, a tethered JB means that the ipod only stays jailbroke if you leave the ipod on, so make sure if you do get a new ipod and you do tether it that you keep an eye on the battery, I leave mine in a docking station when I ain't using it just to be safe. So, acording to Wikipedia, all 8Gbs are still 2gen. So I shouldn't be worried about the whole "tethered" thing? And I should plug it in and JB straight away after unboxing? Yeah, thanks.
Ok, I'm planning on doing the same thing, and I keep hearing so many different ways to do it. Do I use, blackrain, redsnow, pwntool, or follow this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY26frxRPEM&feature=sub ???

But I can't stop wondering how to get free apps via cydia, or how to restore the Touch in case something fails. This is why he should have the iPods'n'iPhones megathread I suggested before. I'm sure that these same things have been asked before.
Just do what I said and you can't go wrong. As for free apps.. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=847855 To restore the ipod all you do is plug it in and load itunes and click restore.
But I might get an 3rd gen. :tinfoil:
Then you will have to do what I do, make sure you do not turn your ipod off and keep it charged so the battery does not die. If it does simply plug it into your pc and run blackra1n again and everything will be fine and nothing will be lost.
Update: WTF, the iPhone3GS is 199$ there? It is like 600€ here what is close to 800usd. Is it possible to use it in Finland without the AT&T contract.
It's $199 with a contract obviously.
I noticed that, I feel like an idiot. :downs: Thanks for the help, thread over.
Okay I've tried installing blackra1n three or four times now but I can't get past "Waiting for device...". My iPod never restarts. Oh and I've got the second gen if it matters.

If it is try making sure that your iPod is unlocked, as in in the "slide to unlock" thing is done.
This should be "General iPod help thread" 116 apps downloaded, waiting for my iPod Touch. :buddy:

Not too bad, though, I haven't restarted my ipod for like a month. It's way more hassle than it's worth.
