• Startup/BIOS Lagging

I started my computer from Hibernate yesterday morning, and the first thing I noticed was the startup beep being just a little longer than usual. The startup routine took twice as long as usual, entering my password didn't have any text entry lag. All of my programs started up at their usual speeds, but the fade effect when opening and closing or minimizing and maximizing windows takes around twice as long. I can play Minecraft fine, but Jaykin Bacon lags as if I was running Crysis on a generic laptop. The one long beep for my motherboard supposedly means either a bad BIOS config or a disconnected monitor. I went into the BIOS menu, and it lags quite a bit. I reset the settings to 'Best Optimized Settings' or something similar, because the note for the long startup beep suggested that. No change. I tried a system restore to the 17th, no change. I tested both RAM sticks, both had good results. I tried starting up with my HDD unplugged, no change. I updated my motherboard / BIOS drivers, no change either. I suspect either the CPU or the motherboard are acting up somewhere. http://speccy.piriform.com/results/AETbZyZzXcxiKVmtuP4Cqhk
You're right - defective CPU/motherboard. A component somewhere is dying and it will only be a matter of time before they go pop altogether. I would put my money on the motherboard, simply because you would see a hell of a lot more symptoms if it were a CPU fault. Only way to know 100% would be to try your CPU in a different motherboard I'm afraid.. Either way, it is a hardware fault. A system restore isn't going to help matters I'm afraid.
I installed a windows update and everything seems back to normal, but I'll keep the motherboard issue in mind.
Yeah please do. Issues at boot, ie in the BIOS and POST, have no bearing on what you have installed on the hard drive so despite you having updated Windows, I'm sorry to say nothing has changed in terms of your hardware configuration which is what I highly suspect is playing up. Do yourself a favour and transfer your data to another working computer if you have one, or replace the motherboard/CPU configuration as soon as you can.
