So with me re-installing DIRT 2 and F1 2010 and the upcoming release of DIRT 3, I've been getting more and more curious about getting a steering wheel. After all, racing is fun and visceral and racing with an actual steering wheel has a very high viscerality potential.
Problem is, what in the name of hideously deforming metal is a good wheel to start with that doesn't cost me a rib?
I've been hearing good things about the Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 wheel (This one), but does anyone else have a suggestion?
Pedals are not a requirement but much appreciated.
the engadget review of that said the logitech equivalent is better for your money and that you really only pay for the ferrari emblems

i personally have a G25 and think it's great but they discontinued it
What about this Logitech Driving Force GT at a not too frightening 90 euros?

Driving force GT is amazing.
Only sad part is that you have no clutch.
Logitech g27 if you want to get really into it. As real as Logitech makes. H pattern shifter and clutch!

This being my first racing wheel, would the lack of clutch be real deal-breaker? Hell, I don't even know what that means!
Oh wait, I do actually. Yeah, a clutch doesn't sound like something I'd miss. I mean, I haven't even taken driving lessons yet so I wouldn't know how to use it anyway.
I have a Logitech Formula Force GP. Eventually I might pull it out and play another racing game with it...

that's the one i was thinking of, i think
Okay, so DFGT is a good buy at first, then a G27 if shit gets real?
clutch and h-shifter isnt hard to use, I've never had a driving lesson or anyone telling me how to drive, but I know how to use it.
clutch doesn't have any effect in dirt2 or f1 2010 though.
Holy shit. I'd need a separate desk to fit a G27
[editline]19th April 2011[/editline]
And a new job to buy it.

so really if you ever want to learn stick shift either you have to know someone who already knows how and is willing to teach you, or just wing it and hope you don't fuck up. it's not like it's a difficult process or anything just really easy to fuck up

I have the Logitech Driving Force GT. It's pretty good for how much it costs. The only downside for me, is how loud it is. If you're a serious gamer get a G27.
I've never considered getting a wheel, but with how intense Grid and Dirt 2 feel, I'll add it to my toy list. The G27 looks nice definitely. I have a tough desk I could probably bolt it on directly.
Well good luck getting a G27 anytime soon. They've been backordered for months everywhere now, even online.
I got lucky and snatched the last one from Amazon.
fuck no the g27 is overpriced as fuck

911 is pretty good too.

If you're gonna get any Fanatec wheel please get the GT3. Then you need to get the Clubsport pedals because the GT3 doesn't include them.
Even then stock Fanatech pedals blow.

Although the 911 is good, but the GT3 is so much better.
