I'm just looking around on microcenter's website, and I put together what I think is a decent computer in my price range. I'd appreciate some comments on what I should improve or things I don't need. :D

I'm making a gaming PC, clearly. I want to know if I'd be able to run games like L4D2 and Starcraft smoothly, as well as Diablo 3 when it comes out. I'm going to harvest my Optical Drive right now because I already have a CD burner, and I have a nice mouse and keyboard that work perfect. Thanks!
I think you'll need a better processor
Any suggestions?
I figured it'd be decent because it's almost 3 GHz and it's Dual Core.
You'll be lucky to play GTA 3 with this cheap ass setup.

Well, there is 4 gigs of ram in it, i only listed the type of ram I was looking at.
What exactly is your price range?
Order from newegg and the cpu and everything is good but the gpu sucks.
Get a quad core AMD CPU instead of your CPU choice, a 4850 instead of a 9600, Don't get a deathstar HD, go Western Digital.
Agreed go with new egg.

Actually the i3 is about on par with the athlon x4s I have used them they are very speedy.
That processor is fine, just get a more powerful GPU such as 4850 that was previously mentioned.
i3 is very powerful. You'd do better with a more powerful graphics card.

This. Without a doubt.
This. Without a doubt.
Agreed haha and it's in my price range (about 600, because my parents are helping me pay for it as a graduation present)

If you are going to college I could make it more portable by making it mini itx. Without sacrificing performance.
I'm living at home next year, so it'll just be in my room. I'm probably going to get a laptop or something too.. not sure yet about that actually haha

Okay because there are some nice mini itx boards.

Just to show you you could.

To get a case that would hold it well it needs to be more expensive but that is the price you pay for portability.

Who makes it?

Here is a 4850 the 5750 is a tab bit more and performs a tad bit better also if you could stretch your budget you could look at the ati radeon hd 5770.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121363
It is a good bump up from the 5750.
Would I be happy with a 4850 though?
Would I be happy with a 4850 though?
Yeah the 5750 just offers direct x 11 and eyefinity which you most likely won't use. So yeah it would be a great way to save some money you could upgrade to case a bit.

I picked a different HD (which was also cheaper for the same price haha). Do you have any suggestions on an AMD CPU i should get?

I'll go with the 5750 then, because I'm sure later down the road I'm going to want Direct x 11

I guess something went off in my head that it was slow, my bad.

A CPU like this?
I think you'll need a better processor
the 530 is quite fast, It runs GTA IV with a 4770 on medium with good FPS
If you're going to spring for that CPU, then go for it. That's a great one.
The i3 you mentioned will be fast though, I just thought it was slow for some reason.
If you choose AMD, make sure you get an AM3 motherboard.

I found this bundle which would make things a tad bit cheaper, and it's got an i3 CPU, but it's dual core. Any downsides to the motherboard or processor?

[editline]03:54AM[/editline]
And i was thinking about it, do I even need 8 gigs of ram or will 4 do?
4 should do
4 should do
Yeah that's what I figured. I've completely redone my computer almost.. it's cheaper too because I did it on newegg. Now I just have to find a damn case with a power supply. But I'm wondering if I can just gut my current case and jam everything into it..? :D It's a Dell 8300.
