tbh this sounds like complete bullshit they promised features that did not end up in the final product fucking terrible lies [editline]30th November 2016[/editline] this is only going to encourage more lying too but people are too stupid and stuck up to stop buying on a promise and hype to care\ all you need to do is make a fake build of a game and release the game without those fake features. That is it!
"We understood that the user interface design and the aiming system had undergone cosmetic changes since the footage for the videos was recorded. However, we did not consider that these elements would affect a consumer’s decision to purchase the game, as they were superficial and incidental components in relation to the core gameplay mechanics and features. We therefore did not consider the ad was likely to mislead in that regard. "We understood that the screenshots and videos in the ad had been created using game footage, and acknowledged that in doing this the advertisers would aim to show the product in the best light. Taking into account the above points, we considered that the overall impression of the ad was consistent with gameplay and the footage provided, both in terms of that captured by Hello Games and by third parties, and that it did not exaggerate the expected player experience of the game. We therefore concluded that the ad did not breach the Code."
you mean like fucking epic space battles and giant creatures? not only that but actually dynamic ecosystems on a planet that had more than like, 2 animals, and was filled with dense plant life and supposed 'online play' and... god knows what else! tell me, what didn't they lie about, outside of the blatant?
[...] we considered that the overall impression of the ad was consistent with gameplay and the footage provided, both in terms of that captured by Hello Games and by third parties, and that it did not exaggerate the expected player experience of the game.
You're lying.
I guess just to clarify, but this is only about their promotional material on Steam. IIRC that wasn't completely accurate either, but it didn't contain all of the lofty promises made throughout NMS's hype campaign.
How much did they pay them for this ruling?
you mean like fucking epic space battles
There are though. Granted, not as complex as they said they would be, but there are large-scale space-combat battles, with the huge freighters. And technically you can pick a side, [del]but there's no consequence or reward for either one you fight for[/del].

I'm officially declared retarded by two professional psychologists and even I understand this is fucking retarded. [editline]30th November 2016[/editline] Retarded
Wow this is some bullshit, like obviously with games some things are nebulous and in development but the dickhead was talking about seeing other players days before release. And now it's going to encourage more developers to push the envelope on making shit up, unless another country's advertising agency calls them out on it, are there any others investigating No Man's Sky?
So basically they just said "We decided those things that are different don't matter", "It's sort of kind of there somewhere maybe" and "It's procedural so it's your fault for thinking it'll be like that!" ....those are pathetic reasons for saying it's accurate.
How much did they pay them for this ruling?
For some reason I think there wasn't any bribery involved, just general incompetence They probably went "spaceships and green aliens in the trailers, spaceships and green aliens in the final product... checks out!"
For some reason I think there wasn't any bribery involved, just general incompetence They probably went "spaceships and green aliens in the trailers, spaceships and green aliens in the final product... checks out!"
Reading their assessment it really seems like they had absolutely no idea what they were doing or what the complaints even meant.

Things that gamers would care about like flora/fauna density and being able to fly your spaceship under a rock would probably strike them as being trivial discrepancies.
When Sean Murray is asked if you can play online with other people in the game, and he goes and nods his head and says 'Yes', turns out there isn't multiplayer and he was lying, and THAT'S NOT FALSE ADVERTISING? Are you fucking serious? If that isn't blatant lying then what is?

And afaik interviews aren't considered advertisements.
I love this game! What you see on steam, is what you get! No pre-rendered cutscenes like most other games use! All was in game footage!
I love this game! What you see on steam, is what you get! No pre-rendered cutscenes like most other games use! All was in game footage!
What game? It's barely on par with Minecraft (If that) in terms of content and that's only with the recent update

Guess we need to fire everyone at the Advertising Standards Authority and get people in there that actually might do their job, then. Because this is nothing if not misleading.

There's nothing really misleading about it other than the fact diplos don't get that big anymore. Are you going to call out Valve for taking The Hydra out of HL2? You can still get similarly stunning shots to that screenshot, and every planet doesn't have to look like the one in the trailer: [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/105102824757836966/5B53145BAE3A2535CC11F17460E81CBA3B5B9761/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/108479918429872250/FB956FBA7A6D90F0BF8D30094C7A6301C9EF0575/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/468764907927070550/97F199A4B3D38567F82DA3BCDB135F7F4E7944E9/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/275104228634456253/1FCAA1B1FD9DEE3718921E69753BC96FA05D765A/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/197426487628056750/C9109C840014F5622EF9FDB902358FD6E542607D/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/100599252360251274/57726B7C77C11EB35AA763E291ADD244C1B6519D/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/100599252360251274/57726B7C77C11EB35AA763E291ADD244C1B6519D/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/263844984523390190/9ABF6730269CCECD933D5D38C2F17F3C6C65A0E7/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/263844984523389494/806B8841E47CD576885244F4136E38BFD79D83FF/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/263844677744738542/84ED27C7117796AB832CD7A90656ED90BF9C375A/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/263845229602478034/D7437D856258EAA555FD12BEC645B3E4A9E4B16D/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/263845229602395590/1B5CC6E6489809D3A19B10AF07736011B5CB3D65/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/263844984532914624/DE08DED0F6774E3B9E7896E823B7057206C29C9B/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/263844984525470078/FD432D3982525CF69E1A15ADF37B689A870971B9/[/t][t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/267226724943303313/AA3E426DA1AFE0AE3101A11D0CAAA6837D851F4F/[/t] The problem before (the biggest one for me at least) was that some planets looked reeeeally bad. Since this update, I've yet to find a planet isn't aesthetically pleasing, because they fixed their texture blending up, before everything always looked messy and just shit. Now I can actually look at the ground without vomiting. Maybe that's me getting lucky with the planet,s though. (User was permabanned for this post ("Alt of HybridTheroy.
(User was permabanned for this post ("Alt of HybridTheroy. Recognized from your fanboyism" - Orkel))
At first I thought "hey maybe this guy's right and the game is redeemable now" but then I saw this :v:
To be honest though, the AI is clunky and missing what we saw in the trailers.
So, there is basically no Advertising Standards Authority, then? These people seem to be functionally useless, after all. Either they don't understand what they're looking at, are hopelessly corrupt or cherry-picked the least incriminating evidence possible to base their investigation off of. Whatever the case, they came to the wrong conclusion in a case so clear-cut that it didn't even need an investigation.
