I'm planning to pick up a dev kit :D Oh boy.
Wonder how much indication this is of the consumer model price...

It all depends on where it will be manufactured and so forth. I think its biggest challenge would have to be appealing to the current "dominate" market. Sure there are some good developers that are supportive of the Oculus but the same could be said about the Novint Falcon awhile back and look how that turned out.

But to weigh things in, one is a force feedback controller, while the other is a stereoscopic visual headset. Both equally knee deep in the gimmick department, but I have a feeling the demand for a virtual reality headset is a lot more than an FFC. Then again, part of the reason the Novint didn't take off so well (or maybe it did, I didn't really watch it too much) was the price. When I saw it was ~$120-150, I was immediately turned off. It is very possible that the manufacturing and selling costs will take the Oculus out of the price range of many consumers.
In the end it's not the price, but the amount of support the Rift will get that will determine its success. And that's looking pretty good so far.
ArmA would be mind blowing awesome with this.
I really, really hope this succeeds. It's a step in the right direction for gaming and from what I can tell, they're doing a really good job with it. Haven't seen a single bad review of it so far.
