So I'm planning to upgrade my computer from AMD to Intel and I'm wondering if this would even be worth it. So I do a lot of gaming, modeling, photoshopping, and a lot of programs running. So here are my current specs for the parts I will be replacing:
CPU
AMD Phenom II X4 840
MOTHERBOARD
ASRock A770DE+ ATX AMD Motherboard
RAM
12GB DDR2 800
And here's my upgrade
CPU
Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge
MOTHERBOARD
ASRock Z77 Extreme4
RAM
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB DDR3
SSD
Intel 330 Series Maple Crest 120GB SSD
Now what I'm wondering if is this worth it like the amount of Ram I plan to purchase and the motherboard. Please post your suggestions below and thanks for the help!
Also I'm planning to buy an SSD just for windows only and install everything else on my 1TB is this a good idea?
I live in the USA and my budget is $700
the rest of my specs are:
Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
800w PSU
I think you've picked out great parts for your upgrade. Only alternative piece I can recommend is going with a slightly faster SSD like an Intel 520 or a Samsung 830/840. Otherwise looks great and you have picked out great parts.
The ram speed upgrade is definately worth it. Definately
I'm not sure what you intend to do with the 16GB though, but looking at photoshop and modeling i would say so. I bought a 120GB SSD and it really helped speed everything up and since you have that meaty 1TB i wouldn't suggest anything bigger SSD wise.
As Evilan said, thats a great build you have there.

Alright now that you got me looking at these two SSD's which one would be faster? The Intel 520 or Samsung 840?

The Samsung 830/840 are faster than the Intel 520 and only marginally less reliable.
