YES! That is all.
Now introducing 72kbps broadband! Only $249.99!
nah man, we're not that low.
The aim is to deliver broadband speeds of 100 megabits per second to homes, schools and businesses. Only a few countries, including South Korea, Japan, and Germany, currently achieve such speeds.
Hold on a sec
Telstra estimates it could make about A$11bn over several decades from the new deal as it will earn revenues through disconnection payments as well a share of profits from the new network.
So if I've got this right, Telstra already intend to charge their customers money for this mandatory switchover (that will be using Telstra's existing infrastructure http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10360513 ) they didn't have to commit to in the first place? Holy shit Australians have it bad.
about time
I just hope we won't have ridiculous caps for it.
We'll still have the caps. We'll just reach them quicker!
We'll still have the caps. We'll just reach them quicker!
They've been upgrading them lately, and some ISP's have no cap already. It's only a matter of time before the caps are gone.
Too bad Telstra and Optus are the two shittiest internet company's. When will IInet catch on.
Super fast broadband to rival the world! ....That we'll filter.
Too fucking bad Telstra & Optus announced that as of next month users will have now have a internet filter: http://www.news.com.au/technology/internet-filter/telstra-optus-to-begin-censoring-web-next-month/story-fn5j66db-1226079954138
Broadband speeds in Australia are below the OECD average at 32.4 megabits per second.
Shit, wish mine got that high
Now we can finally get mmo based servers.
Wait, I just realized, if they're both switching to one state owned broadband service, doesn't that mean filters can be placed with ease and without much negotiation God I hope there's a massive protest if filters start coming in, fucking conservative shitheads. Why don't we filter something useful, and ban conservatives from running in parliament ever again
Wait, I just realized, if they're both switching to one state owned broadband service, doesn't that mean filters can be placed with ease and without much negotiation
This is just one part of what opponents of the filter argue against, and with good reason. "RC" content is still incredibly broad, it isn't just strictly-illegal content. If you're not up to speed on it all, this site is a good read.
Shit, wish mine got that high
You're doing better than me:
Finally, the government does something good for once.
Not too bad.
Nobody cares about your internet speeds. I hope this will make the life of Australian gamers happier, it can't imagine how annoying it must be to be a gamer down under.
Nobody cares about your internet speeds. I'm happy as it is but game updates literally suck because it takes an hour to download..
I'm really skeptical about this. The government almost never does things right, there's just got to be something they fuck up this time

Around here I also very much doubt their intentions are "conservative" agendas relating to religion, but more population control coming from that side of politics. Also yes, we are probably getting a filter of some sort lumped in with this NBN.
I'm really skeptical about this. Besides, expect set backs, expect money blowouts and delays, and then expect everything to get totally messed up when they lose the next election, which at this point looks like a guarantee.

Don't start this SpeedTest shit again. Also good job Aussie.
This sounds good but knowing this country it will cost a LOT.
Hopefully this will bring the cost of renting servers down.
