The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn't public.
Verizon and Apple representatives either declined to comment on the reports or did not return requests for comment.
Verizon has long been a popular topic for rumors regarding expanded iPhone partnerships in the United States. One recent report had suggested that a Verizon iPhone could make an appearance as soon as November, but most observers have been expecting a 2011 launch on the carrier. What do you guys think? Is it just speculation, or is this utter bullshit?
Here's the link:http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-06-29/verizon-wireless-said-to-start-offering-iphone-ending-at-t-s-exclusivity.html
Of course its bullshit. January 2010 happened 6 months ago!
Seriously though, I have my doubts. There have been rumors like this for years, and each one turns out to be nothing but rumors.

That's what I'm thinking. I posted the link for people to take a look at.
There's a rumor that Apple & AT&T renewed their 5 year contract in May. Even if they didn't, there's still 1.5 years in the old contract.
Why would it be released in January, after the holiday season?
Anyways, I think it'd be great if the iPhone was available on other carriers. It would open up the market for Apple. Though I don't see the iPhone moving completely away from AT&T.
AT&T had the only network at the time to support the mass of data being transferred from iPhones. They then signed the contract, so no funny business compiles between the companies. Now that Verizon is rolling out a 4G network, it's possible we will see a possibility of an altered iPhone coming to Verizon.
Then again, it's just a rumor, and the sources cannot be confirmed.
I bet they will still make you pay out the ass

I thought AT&T's contract with Apple was done this June

iPhone 4
Would someone please explain how an iPhone would operate on Verizon's network? would they have to use a "dummy" card in the SIM slot?
They most likely would have to release a new model with the right hardware.

From the ZDNet article I was reading, Apple would construct a modified CMDA version of the phone that would have LTE capabilities to utilize Verizon's rolling 4G network.

Could this mean that some carriers would offer superior versions of apple's iPhone when compared to others?
For example, HTC offers a variety of different phones that are exclusive on different networks. Would this happen to iPhone?

This is what I was reading from, and I usually trust ZDNet.
Where I live verizon has very poor coverage.

It was on the news this time. The actual TV news. It is no longer a rumor.

So I'm assuming the AT&T exclusivity contract is now null and void? Or doesn't apply to CDMA carriers?
I'm not believing, until iPhones start appearing in Verizon displays. So until then :colbert:

Just because it's on the news doesn't mean it's true.
Until Verizon has a pervasive 4G network, the chances of this happening are slim to none.
The chance that Apple will go ahead and make a baseband that supports 1x, EVDO, and LTE is pretty low. It just isn't Apple-like to have something so complex. They're all about simplicity. The activation process would have to be entirely different for one. For another, if I'm not mistaken, LTE uses sim cards for authentication. You'd end up with a sim card and still have to have that terrible CDMA activation process. It just isn't something Apple would do. We won't see an iPhone for Verizon for that reason.

You're too naive. The news can lie and can be incorrect. It happens all the time.

Of course it applies to CDMA carriers. It's exclusivity. Whether it's actually out is currently unknown as far as I can tell. They may have renewed it or they may be planning to. Who knows how much money AT&T will throw at Apple in desperation...
I'm actually fed up with verizon's shit. I've had to use verizon for 3 years because of my parents and sure the service is awesome, but everything about it is just so damn expensive. I can't wait till i move out and can make my own damn decisions (no matter how stupid they may be).

Verizon allows for unlimited use of 3G use in their contracts while AT&T currently puts limits on its users' 3G usage. Verizon also has no fee for backing out of a contract (not even for a Droid OS Phone), AT&T charges $350.00 U.S. to back out of iPhone service contract. If you want a good unlimited service for all types (phone, texts, data/internet etc...) Boost Mobile is only $50 U.S. per month. Verizon ($70 US/Month) may be more expensive than AT&T ($55 US/Month) for 3g coverage, but AT&T is limited to how may users are in the area. The more people on the network the more bandwidth is used up, and the less connectivity you have. Because of this, AT&T now limits the 3G Data throughput to a certain amount per customer (much like Australia @ 25 GB per month on regular computer internet use for those who have heard about it). Verizon uses CDMA2000 mobile broadband standards so each user has their own internet set up (much like having an ISP which Verizon also is through FioS).
I would kill for Iphone on Verizon.

Verizon has an early termination fee. It's not as ridiculous as 350 dollars, but it has one and it goes down.
Verizon has an early termination fee. It's not as ridiculous as 350 dollars, but it has one and it goes down.
I agree. You should also mention that Verizon reduces the fee from the value of the phone you have. If you spend money on a Blackberry Storm, then that money you spent goes to your early termination fee if you return the phone after backing out. Pending on the value of the contract , you could get no termination fee what so ever because the value of the phone was more than the fee itself.

They are making CDMA2000 Based iPhones as we speak. CDMA2000 is the network type that Sprint and Verizon use for 3G.

Can you provide proof? I should note that proof is not confirmed information from a blogging site from unconfirmed, anonymous sources.
Looking forward to you posting some pictures of production or an official Apple press release.
There is a CDMA version of iPhone 4 coming. It could go with verizon... But then again, it could be a rumor...

This.
There's been a lot of stuff floating around, but I'd love to see hard evidence saying 'Yes!'.
There is none. People do this every time exclusivity is gonna run out.
They like to hold out hope that Verizon will get it.
The chance that Apple will make a CDMA only iPhone is pretty much none.
Read my previous post and you'll understand why Verizon probably won't be getting one soon.
