To be fair they kind of have a point, I am no white knight but the amount of YouTube videos that are out there that give females abuse in games in pretty high. (Just for being female.)
me being probably ignorant here, but i thought the main reason they don't earn as much is because they arent on the big teams that win that much, because they arent as good as the people on those teams.
i mean i'm sure there are players out there that are girls that would be good enough, i don't know
if they're going to compare wages, they have to compare skill, and amounts of games (and tournaments) won. an esports promo company isn't going to promote or pay someone an insane amount of cash when they haven't proven themselves to be paid.
i personally also find that some of the more popular female esports teams don't really know how to market, other than "we can do what the boys can too". fucking lame. stand tall on your own and let your gaming do the talking.
also twitch is populated by 12 year old boys, of course women are going to get mean things sent to them in chat. and if you're not partnered you'll have no chance in hell of having a twitch mod around to moderate your own chat for you. streamers that can't handle that do not have a chance, regardless of gender.
perhaps they should be comparing how much female twitch streamers get in donations compared to male streamers. i'm sure there would be quite the gap there. a lot of female twitch streamers can live quite comfortably with the amount of money they get from random strangers. and if thats how they make their living, there's no problem with that. but there's no sense here in hollering "wage gap" when it comes to male streamers vs female streamers, pro/e-sports or not.
i have no doubt these organizations are doing good inspiring girls to game but this article is quite shit.

It's exactly why they don't earn as much. Even the Frag Dolls got their asses handed to them the last couple go round, and the emphasis here is sports aka competition for money. Why would any sane sponsor spend the same amount of money for a consistently fifth place team as the first... right, they wouldn't, they don't.
Twitch being a shit hole is entirely a separate issue and as usual the BBC conflates the two as same and equal. Not even kind of.
There are a lot fewer women than men who play esport games, so as a result there is also a lot fewer good ones.
And I think teams may be a bit hesitant to pick up female players, because they worry that they wont be as marketable.
There's also the problem that girls keep trying to start all female teams, and while that might be effective from a marketing position realistically there's probably going to be one or two good players that'll be held back by the others.

Female twitch stream : Big focus on the female streamer, notably her.. uhh.. asset, with a bigger camera screen size, with little gameplay and much "<3 i love you <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3" "THANK YOU <3" ":3" ":3" cute thing and viewer that watch with their dick and not their mind.
Male twitch stream : little camera screen size to none, emphasize on gameplay and them being legitimately relaxed about being on scream and showing their passion of videogame.
That's for MOST female streamer, i've watched some real good one who were really kind and chill too who focused on the game itself and which had a real videogame passion! ... and they're always in the low viewer part of twitch, sadly. Proving my point even further that, twitch viewer are mostly horny male that watch with their dick. I can't blame them tought, those top girl streamer really try to make them the most horny so they can give money! They've understood how to make money by exploiting the male public.

We need gender quotas on professional teams, and they need to be paid the same
Equality come on guys, this is 2016
But no really, they dont deserve more unless theyre good, which most are not, because theres less of a sample pool of girl esports players.

I generaly just rule it under the "fuck everyone" rule, as in if someone's toxic, he'll be toxic for whatever reason he can find. Probably even being toxic to himself if he were to find a clone of himself.
there was a thing on 60 minutes about wage gap shit. i'll tl;dr as much as possible.
- the more a team sells (tickets, merch, tv rights), the more money it has to pay its team members
- female shit generally doesn't sell as well as male shit

THE ONLY THING THAT WILL AND SHOULD DECIDE IF YOU GET ON ESPORT :
Skill. Just, fucking skill. I don't fucking care about your fucking gender, sex, or anything, but i want SKILL. I want TALENT, i want to be impressed by your game move and see that you know thing that i can't or most of the community can't do without training and playing intensively.

Do autographed panties
One of the problems I've noticed is orgs only building all male or all female teams, why the fuck are there no mixed teams?
Is it really that big of an issue, I understand that the teams tend to share hotel rooms and beds etc which might not be all that comfortable for a mixed team but surely they can be more mature and deal with it.
Know some of the CS teams wouldn't mind the introduction of mixed teams.

I agree that it's quite a half-assed article

Japan won't save the female athletic industry alone. Also, that only helps college tuition.
“Unlike in traditional sport, physical advantages in e-sports are non-existent yet the most popular games are still overwhelmingly played by men.”
So this one is actually not true. The split among gender for those playing games is fairly even, perhaps even with a slightly higher percentage of women playing games in the USA than men. Again, why couldn’t the BBC have pointed this out?
Just a tiny nitpick with this...Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the whole '52% of people who play games are women' or whatever stat only that high if you include mobile gaming?
*Edit*
Yeah I looked up the article that people always pull this statistic from and it includes handheld/mobile phones. Not to be elitist, but I think its kinda misleading to say things like that knowing full well that people will believe that those kinds of numbers are consistent across major console/PC titles and not including everyone who plays candy crush in their lunch break on a phone. That being said I'd be interested to see more in depth statistics per platform.
Lets think about this from a practical perspective.
Are there female gamers that are better than you,me,etc? Well yeah there's thousands of them scattered across the world of all varying skill levels. The matter is if they are actually good enough to compete against these comp teams.
I'm not disavowing anyone's skill but if you earnestly couldn't beat any of their members, even in a scrimmage, friendly, etc. Then why should they put you on their roster? What if you came from am all girls team that never placed within the top 3 of any event you went to? Why would these teams or sponsors want to give you money when you can't even keep up with the other players?
Just because you're a chick don't endow you with the right to be put onto a highly sponsored team's roster because they need to fill some retarded as gender quota. That's why 99% of the gaming worlds doesn't actively have teams making money because they are no where near the skill or level these competitive guys are playing at.
A lot of the problem is there is not a lot of female players; as a result, "good" female players are harder to come by. A "all-female" tournament isn't going to help - this isn't physical sports, females can be just as good as males, they just have to prove it.
I also hate how they always complain about receiving abuse - do you not think the males receive the same amount!? They are RUTHLESS. Many, and I am sure not all, are not specifically targeting females - they attack whatever easy target they can.

Don't ever trust the BBC to handle this subject honestly.
