• CPU and RAM build help

Hello, I am interested in building a new desktop PC for myself, as a new laptop is not a good idea. I am clueless about new technologies and combinations and how to choose parts for a PC, but I can follow basic instructions to assemble one. I would like to build a desktop for music production which is CPU intensive. I do not care about graphics and such, but a nicely powered card for flawless HD movie playback and occasional Photoshop wouldn't hurt. But I guess the Intel HD graphics cards are sufficient. I would also like for the PC to fit in the smallest case possible for easy transport. (in a large backpack, not in the back of a car). So, to keep things simple, I don't need the MOST expensive parts, the CPU should be up to 4 cores and ram up to 16 gb. Please help, thanks.
If you don't really care about graphics and want a portable package, why not just get a laptop? Macbook Pros have a good built-in DAC for music editing.
Do you have a budget?
Laptops heat up faster than a desktop and their performance for price is less. A budget would be anything between 500 and 700 euros. [editline]24th November 2014[/editline] I'd also want to buy an external sound card.
