well i didn't really want to play it subscription and now i really don't want to play it.
This is going to be delicious when they fail.
I'm curious to see how their continued updates compare to other F2P mmo's which manage to produce loads of updates without the need of a subscription fee.
Well, its going to get lesser people then, I refuse to even play it anymore till its F2P, This game isn't worth $15 a month, hell, its barely an Elder Scrolls game.
And I argue that they're wrong, because the game's not very great to begin with.
Yeah, if I am remembering correctly a similar statement was made about The Old Republic, TERA and pretty much every big name MMORPG in the last 3 or 4 years that started with a subscription model. Seeing how the consensus is that this isn't such a great game, I'm wondering if they'll pull the "why didn't we see F2P as the great thing it is!!1" card or just pretend this statement never was said, like most of the other guys when this bombs and goes F2P. Because they seem really likely to skip a The Secret World'esque B2P system.
"We're not trying to make a game that everybody who plays games will automatically buy," he said. "It is a certain kind of game. There's no shooter elements. There's no aliens."
Please tell me that this statement has been taken terribly out of context.
'lesser game' is that even possible
So what they're saying is that they don't want to attract a lot of people to play the game, but want to put a lof of money and manpower into updating it regularly Brilliant, I don't see how that can't possibly work!
"We're not trying to make a game that everybody who plays games will automatically buy," he said. "It is a certain kind of game. There's no shooter elements. There's no aliens."
What the fuck does this even mean
"We're not trying to make a game that everybody who plays games will automatically buy," he said. "It is a certain kind of game. There's no shooter elements. There's no aliens."
I think they might be trying to preemptively scapegoat poor sales on how "it only appeals to select people because its not a copy/paste shooter".
I think they might be trying to preemptively scapegoat poor sales on how "it only appeals to select people because its not a copy/paste shooter".
They're setting themselves to look retarded in the future. That way you can say "Oh, it's not that they're bad, they're just retarded".
I think they might be trying to preemptively scapegoat poor sales on how "it only appeals to select people because its not a copy/paste shooter".
But it's fucking Elder Scrolls? They can't possibly say shit like that as if they appeal to a smaller audience when everyone and their dog bought Skyrim.
I wonder who's gonna buy this game and keep paying subscription.
But it's fucking Elder Scrolls? They can't possibly say shit like that as if they appeal to a smaller audience when everyone and their dog bought Skyrim.
Elder Scrolls are niche games. Everybody may have bought it, but the people that still play today are a very small niche. Which is why, IMO they should catter to those people that are still playing today and not those who played 20 hours and left the game.
I wonder who's gonna buy this game and keep paying subscription.
Well there are a handful of people in the Elder Scrolls thread that say they will.
Those who still play it today probably have their games modded to hell which mmo cannot offer.
It's like I said, they should invest in these people rather than on the people that are going to forget the game after a month.
I think they might be trying to preemptively scapegoat poor sales on how "it only appeals to select people because its not a copy/paste shooter".
Looks especially bad after they've pulled this whole "Appealing to a wider audience" shit with Skyrim.
Those who still play it today probably have their games modded to hell which mmo cannot offer.
Those people wont play because they cant add sex mods and nude patches.
there are graphics hacks for WoW what makes you think they can't do it here
restricting the audience was intentional.
If you want to restrict your audience, do it with the game's style, it's story, it's gameplay and mechanics. (Which you're doing and not in the pleasing a niche market sort of way, either) Monthly fee for the sake of restricting the audience? That's possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Sounds like one of those elitest clubs or parties that ask you WHO You're wearing before they let you in Arenanet is a much smaller company, and they're doing more non stop with Guild Wars 2 without a monthly fee. If you're greedy just say you're greedy. To pay $60 and then a monthly fee the game would have to be exceptionally fucking good. And ESO isn't even close
Maybe "restricting the audience" means "no immature little shits in our game who can't mown some lawns and buy a subscription"?
I was just watching gameplay footage, does this game run with an FOV of 60 degrees?
I actually had a dream that ESO was amazing and I was blown out of the water by it. I woke up and then I had the sad realization that I not only dreamed about playing a video game but it wasn't real.
I don't get it. If this was what they were going for from the beginning, why the hell did they send beta testers a survey asking what they would pay for and how much they think the game is worth? [editline]12th March 2014[/editline] Seriously, they made a survey with like 20 questions about the final pricing of the game.
and hate their life like everyone else
Nice attitude.
Maybe "restricting the audience" means "no immature little shits in our game who can't mown some lawns and buy a subscription"?
I think it's an appeal to the usual elitist "hardcore gaymur" crap. And your financial status really doesn't correlate with your position on the casual-hardcore scale.
there are graphics hacks for WoW what makes you think they can't do it here
Hey, if random Oblivion mods showed me lizard boobs, ESO can show me that again, but without the gamebryo genetically defective faces! I don't mind paying a subscription for ESO if I'm still playing it after a month. At least you can wait until the first 30 days are up instead of having to add a month or 2 worth of game time just to start playing. If ESO sucks, at least I won't feel as ripped off as SWTOR! (although the collector's edition has some nice swag, like that small statue I still have on display)
And I argue that they're wrong, because the game's not very great to begin with.
it truly isn't. i doubt i would play it even if it was F2P.
