• Upgrading iPad from iOS 9.0 to iOS 10.1.1

Hello all, I have never upgraded the system software on my iPad because I have had bad experiences with software updates on iOS before - namely, planned obsolescence by new updates greatly slowing down pretty much everything, from performance in video games to even lag when typing. But saying that, there have been some apps I've been interested in which are iOS 10 only. Should I risk it, or does iOS 10 have notorious unreliability problems?
What iPad model are you currently using? Upgrading to newer firmware versions is known for slowing older devices down as they are incapable to handling the newer software they weren't built for. Media sources and reviewers are reporting that iOS 10 doesn't really make that much of a difference performance wise for older devices. Since the iOS 9 signing period is over, once you upgrade your iPad you no longer have the option to downgrade back to an older iOS version. That being said it's a giant risk in your case. I was recently forced to upgrade my iPad Air 1 to iOS 10 as I put it into a BLoD when doing some stupid shit. I havn't noticed any performance increase or decrease so I cant really tell much, it goes with your own experience. As I said, what's your iPad model and I'll have a look around for you. [editline]edit[/editline] Now that I think about it, iOS 9.0 was a very unstable firmware. Since you probably don't care about the Jailbreaking industry your best bet is to bite the bullet and upgrade.
Yep, believe it or not the iPhone 5S runs 10 better than any version of 9 if it's an iPad 4 or above, go for it
It's an iPad Mini 4 I believe. Got it new in March this year. [editline]6th November 2016[/editline] Thanks for the help by the way fellas
It's an iPad Mini 4 I believe. Got it new in March this year.
iPad Mini 4 is the newest iPad Mini and a great tablet. You'll likely be able to take it all the way to iOS 11 or 12 before it starts being noticably slower, and maybe not even then. iOS devices are becoming so powerful that when they become unsupported, they are still plenty fast and usable. Take a look at the iPhone 5, it runs iOS 10 (which is the last iOS it will have) far better than iOS 9 on the 4s, which was its last iOS.
Haha that's decided. I think I will risk it. Will post back after the update. [editline]7th November 2016[/editline] I think it was a success. Performance is pretty much the same, in fact I feel that Rush Rally 2 actually runs better after the update. Thanks fellas!

Check us out in the Apple thread for more ~courage~ sometime!
...the 4 on 7.1.2 :v:
Yeah that is just a travesty :v: Apple should've left the iPhone 4 on iOS 6 like they left the iPod Touch 4 on iOS 6.
