• Monitor says "no signal"

So, I've been having some PC trouble lately. Last week I had an issue where the PC kept turning itself on and off repeatedly, until I kept it turned off for about ten minutes (I suspect overheating). Now, I went to this big LAN event last weekend but when I arrived my PC had another issue. No matter which HDMI or VGA cable I tried my screen kept saying "no signal". When booting the PC it also automatically restarts itself within seconds, but runs "normally" afterwards. I'm not sure whether the issue is with the mobo, RAM or video card (which seem the most likely culprits). I'm about to try the GPU on another PC just in case and I'll report back on that later. My friend says that the issue is most likely with the RAM, which I hope it is since it would be the cheapest to replace. I have no way to test the RAM on or try the RAM of another PC right now as I don't know anyone else with DDR3. Some curious details: at the LAN event I managed to get it working for a while with an alternate HDMI cable until it got accidentally yanked out. The monitor also worked fine for a while with a DVI cable until I had to turn it off, and in the morning the monitor would receive no signal. My PC specs are as follows: Palit GTX 460 1GB i5 2500k 4GB 1600mhz ripjaws RAM 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 7200rpm Asus P8P67 Rev 3.0 mobo [editline]27th February 2012[/editline] I've confirmed that the problem is not the GPU, checked it on another PC.
okay this is weird. Check EVERY SINGLE CONNECTION on your motherboard. Something might be loose.
Could be a graphics card problem if it's not displaying anything, best to check all the connections or try using a different card and seeing if that works.
I've checked every connection on my motherboard. I've also tried my graphics card on another PC and it worked, and tried another graphics card on my PC, still no signal. I also got new RAM yesterday and it was no help, and tested my PSU on another PC, it worked.
So it's down to CPU and motherboard now. Lets hope it's the latter, as it's cheaper to replace (if you don't have warranty or lost your receipt).
It's probably a failing capacitor on the mobo since it is intermittent.
It's probably a failing capacitor on the mobo since it is intermittent.
It's only worked once after the first failure, so it's not really intermittent.
the PC kept turning itself on and off repeatedly
Sounds intermittent to me. Anyway one way you can test is to stick it in the fridge for a while, assuming the capacitor(s) have not totally died it should come on without problem. Actually now that I think about it the power supply is a more likely suspect.
PSU was tested on another PC too without problems (I'm the friend mentioned in the OP).
So, tested with another mobo, still nothing and took the CPU to warranty, they sent it back and said nothing was wrong with it.
