I got a 22" hp w2207 1680x1050 in 2007, I was wondering would it be worth it to get a 24" 1080p I'm about an arm's length from my monitor.
It's funny, I bought the exact same monitor in 2007 and recently upgraded to a 24" 1920x1080, it is definitely an improvement, I'm glad I got a matte one too.
It's definitely worth an upgrade if you'll include the 22" as a second screen, otherwise it's kind of if you need the extra pixels.
Do it, I don't regret buying my 1080p 23". :)
Any particular monitor suggestions?
I definitely recommend Samsung. I've owned three of them (using two 23" right now) and I know two people who also have Samsung monitors. Best quality screens IMO.
I won't be able to use my 22" as a second monitor, desk not big enough
Then it's kinda worth the upgrade, though unless you're upgrading to a p' sweet screen it won't be all magical like upgrading from a 17" 1024x768, you'll quickly get too used to it.
yeah I was looking at 27" screens and they're MASSIVE, that won't work with me being >3 feet away from my screen haha
I did the same switch, same distance too. It's worth it.
I have a 27" screen and I don't even sit far away from it. It's perfect for me, mostly because my glasses make everything look much smaller than they really are. Through them a 27" monitor would look more like a 24-25" monitor. [editline]1st February 2012[/editline] My eyesight is bad enough to make anything a blurry mess 30cm away from me.
Can I ask.. I have a 560ti by ASUS, the DirectCU II one. If I get a new 24", Could I use this alongside my current 22" monitor? My card has two DVI connections and one HDMI, but I of course understand it would not be powerful to run games on two monitors with one card (I'd have to use 3 if I went SLI, the split in the middle with 2 would drive me nuts). Basically, like as I use my new one for gaming, the other could be for other windows like web browse etc?
yes, it is so worth it.
I won't be able to use my 22" as a second monitor, desk not big enough
My desk is pretty small that the two monitors will most likely be facing each other, rather than me. I may just have enough room though..
If you just want it for the extra pixels, there won't be a huge improvement by going from 1680x1050 to 1080p. Unfortunately, resolutions larger than 1080p are still uncommon and expensive, so there's not really a larger upgrade step to take.

What's the best quality 22" one? Mines a sucky CIBOX one, although it has lasted me a very long time.

How much are you willing to spend?

I'd go with this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236205 1920x1080, 21.5", eIPS. It's still 6bit color like a TN panel but you do get the great viewing angle. Also please ignore the Newegg listed 14ms response time, it's 5ms GtG which is in line with other monitors.
Dont get a new monitor if it's just a marginal upgrade. Wait for more money and get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236104&Tpk=vg236he (289 with rebate) It's 120hz. It's worth it just because of the increased fluidity in windows. You can really tell a difference by looking at mouse movement.... it's much more fluid and smooth.
I reccomend getting a 16:10 monitor if you are used to 16:10 (aka 1900x1200 at 24"). 16:9's will appear slightly smaller to you because of the fact that you lose about 200 verticle pixels, even though its wider at the sides. A 24" 16:9 monitor is almost the same exact height as a 21" 16:10 monitor, for example. It's much more worth it IMO to go to a 16:10 monitor, especially if you do things other than game or watch movies on it. Though you'll pay a small premium for 16:10, because generally its cheaper to mass produce the more popular 16:9 aspect ratio. If you're looking to save, you might as well go for 16:9 then.
