• Nokia ships 5.6 million Lumias worldwide in Q1, still posts a small loss despite otherwise encouragi
Shipments of Nokia's Lumia Windows Phones increased from 4.4 million last quarter to 5.6 million, which represents an all-time high since Elop made the decision to switch to Microsoft's then-fledgling smartphone platform. Sales of "Smart Devices" in general again dropped quarter-over-quarter, from 86.3 million to 61.9 million. That drop is due to Nokia ramping-down of sales of Symbian devices, which is reflected in an increase in the average selling price of a Smart Device from €186 ($243) to €191 ($249) — Lumias have a higher margin than Symbian devices. After a brief return to profitability last quarter, Nokia has posted a small loss in Q1 2013. The company's operating loss was €150 million (roughly $196 million) on €5.85 billion ($7.65 billion) in revenue over the quarter, but despite the losses, today's financial results are definitely encouraging.
It's so great to see Nokia slowly but surely recovering!
Proud owner of a Lumia 800
I'm going to sound like a broken record but, as much as i love the windows phone operating system and just everything about it like seriously it fucking rocks I wish there was more apps that you'd find on android or iOS but apart from that they're great, and you can't go wrong when you're with Nokia they produce some great apps for lumia owners
I ditched windows phone for my iPhone just a few days ago, I much prefer the windows OS but the quality of apps is just awful, especially the spotify app and the Facebook app. At the end of the day I was t going to go wrong with an iPhone so fuck it, all I do is listen to music and chat to people on it. Shame tho because the windows phone is beautifully designed and refreshing. Oh but it also has awful auto correct
agreed, typing in true autocorrects it to TRUE and its so fucking annoying because it sounds like im yelling at someone
Wanting to leave my otherwise beautiful Lumia 920 due to WP8's shitty ass media players. For some reason, all of the video/music players on WP still cling to fast forward/rewind buttons in the age of draggable seekbars. Oh and it doesn't remember where in your song you left off if you decide to completely stop the music and then start up again.
Microsoft needs to hire or get help from more Nokia people in terms of software. Anyone remember how awesome the Nokia N9 was?

Some apps like whatsapp do some hacky shit to improve message delivery on WiFi and turn on a fake stream to keep the WiFi on, if in the media player you get a black square that says paused, just tap it, hit back and you get the song you were last listening to at the time you stopped it. Yeah, the N9 was pretty slow, but the multitasking and swiping UI elements are something I would love to see in Windowsphone in the future.

The other part is just plain wrong, though, as long as you don't turn off your phone, it'll start it off from where you left off. And why do people have a problem with the autocorrect? Sure, sometimes it does something illogical, but for the most part it works just fine. And the keyboard itself is great.

On my iPhone (and I assume android too) I can just vaguely hit the keys in the right places and it always knows what I'm trying to type and spell, the only problem it's just sometimes a little bit too overpowering if you want to use a slang word or something
If only Windows phone was as popular as Android, it deserves it so much more
If only Windows phone was as popular as Android, it deserves it so much more
Windows Phone needs more apps
Yeah, the N9 was pretty slow, but the multitasking and swiping UI elements are something I would love to see in Windowsphone in the future.
I am not entirely sure but weren't all the people who worked on N9 part of the ones who walked out of Nokia the day the deal with Microsoft has been made?
Sorry Nokia, can't buy one of your classy phones just yet :(
Sorry Nokia, can't buy one of your classy phones just yet :(
you can find the Lumia 820 (which is a p. good mid-high end phone) for 330$ unlocked on some places..
I am not entirely sure but weren't all the people who worked on N9 part of the ones who walked out of Nokia the day the deal with Microsoft has been made?
I think so. The N9 was a great device either way, the OS was incredibly innovative. Maybe I'm just slightly better at hitting keys vaguely, I don't know. All my post in this thread were written on a WP7.8 device. Something I've noticed with the kayboard, though: unless your spelling mistakes are in the "correct" order, it'll do jackshit about it.
Except I don't even have 100$
save some money, I'm currently saving for that one, right now I have 160$ and should get another 100$ soon :D you can also get the 620 (which is a pretty decent one too) for merely $250
Proud owner of a Lumia 822. I am glad to see lots of windows phones being shipped, slowly and surely the good apps will start rolling in.

if it can play gta3, angry birds, fruit ninja. i'll buy it
Love my 810 Honestly have had zero problems with apps. The only app I was missing from android was Pandora, which was just added last month, and ad-free might I add. It literally has everything else I use either built into the OS or offered by first/third parties, and most of the time the app quality/UI/stability/performance is much better than my experiences with android. The only thing I don't like about WP8 is that all the third party browsers suck and were designed for Wp7 standards (so they crash a TON), and that the OS-integration of things like Facebook and twitter is aweosme, but really needs expanded on (i.e. I can only like status updates but not invidual comments through the People hub). None of those things really deal-break anything for me, they would be be nice to get fixed in later updates.

There are a few basic things that Windows Phones just don't get right, though. The two biggest flaws are that there is no inbuilt rotation lock, and no inbuilt timer or stopwatch. Nokia/Microsoft really needs to fix this kind of shit before Windows Phones are truly marketable.

Does Android and iOS even have that? Either way, I don't think that's what's holding people off WP.
My 920 has been fantastic since I got it. It is light on apps, but I really don't mind it.
I read somewhere that they didn't include rotation lock on purpose, they feel the way to UI is designed doesn't really need rotation lock... which I disagree.
I'm a big fan of laying my phone on a table and having it rotate back the other way.

After a fair time of using it though, it gets massively massively better.
I read somewhere that they didn't include rotation lock on purpose, they feel the way to UI is designed doesn't really need rotation lock... which I disagree.
Rotation isn't a problem in the UI and it's also not a problem in apps that use Pivot control. Since those are as a rule portrait based. But it massively needs it inside of the browser in the very least.
