Laptop freezing up for a few seconds every few hours

I have a macbook pro 15" from 07 or 08 running windows vista, and I've noticed that starting a few days ago, it freezes for about 10 seconds every few hours. Could something in it be going? I have a bad habit of never turning it off unless 100% necessary, could this be the source of the problem?
I should still be under extended warranty until the end of this year, but I can't call until Monday.
Do you think it would be worth sending it in? I can't really afford a new computer right now, and I need a computer for working on editing videos and typing up scripts, so I can't just get a junk one until I have enough for a good one.
probably natural for all laptops, i get it all the time
It hasn't done this before though, ever. And I use this for games.
is this one of the MacBook Pros with Nvidia's 8600m GT?

I Was asking about the GPU since quite a few of the MacBook Pros with the 8600m GT were shipped defective GPUs because Nvidia supplied Apple with faulty GPUs that caused many problems.
Yeah, but wouldn't it have shown up before now?
And I sent it in once when my screen cracked and they supposedly sent me a new one, and that was after the whole nvidia thing arose.

no, it took a while for the problems caused by the 8600m GT to happen. and if you got a "new" one after the whole Nvidia thing it's most likely they gave you a defective refurbished model and didn't realize it. I would try asking on the Apple forums.
I'd rather just call on monday if that might be the issue.
You think they'll give me an updated model seeing how old this is, or just throw a new card in?

usually they don't replace a specific part of their computers, most likely you'll get a newer model if if can't be fixed.
Apples gonna hate me. They already gave me a 32gb 3rd gen iPod Touch from a 16gb 2nd gen because they scratched it when they were fixing a battery issue (they scratched the screen, I didn't go and bitch about a scratch on that backplate that gets marked up if you breathe on it).
I don't really like the mouse on the new ones, but an upgrades an upgrade.
Semi-related, do you think it's too optimistic to think that I might be able to get an iMac instead of a macbook pro?
The middle iMac is the same price of the 15" Macbook pro ($1699) and I have a 15" Macbook pro, pretty sure it's the one right before the unibody one. I know a few months after I got it, they released the one with no mouse button.
you can try to get an iMac but don't get your hopes up. it would be cool if you did though.
Just talked to an apple rep, he said that it sounds like a CPU problem, not a GPU problem, because in all the cases of the faulty 8600s the video was either distorted or not there, but no cases of it just freezing.
I'm gonna just send it in and see what they say. I doubt they'll take it apart and replace the CPU if that's the issue, and I need a new superdrive as well, so I'm hoping they'll just call and ask if I'd accept a replacement.
good luck with all of that.
