Trying to get a midrange gaming computer for my friend, he mostly just wants to run most games on medium\low.
He has a HDD\OS\DVD Drive.
Budget is $300, this comes to $315 with shipping.
We're planning on upgrading it a little when he gets more of course.
I'll do one for you, just a minute.

you need his zip to calculate shipping, its going to be more then 320, like 326$
Zip is 86336. I'd like to go over as little as possible because anything over comes from my pocket and I won't get it back until he upgrades in a few months
Edited my build, take a look.
That's about the best FPS:$ you're going to get. The 4650 is crap for gaming, the 4670 is ok, but the 4850 is much better. Be nice and pay the extra for him, or swap the 4850 for a 670 or 650.
Two things
1) is the 300W enough you think seeing we're gonna upgrade later?
2) It says that's laptop memory, doesn't that make a difference?
Also can you put my zip in so I can see how much shipping is?
Didn't notice that it was laptop memory, sorry about that. It won't work, so get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231252&cm_re=2gb_ddr3_1333-_-20-231-252-_-Product
300W is fine for the 4650, 4670 or 4850 but won't offer much upgrade room. Get this if you can: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008&Tpk=400%20cx
Get the Rosewill case if you really need to save some $ for the other parts.
That comes to $388 with shipping. The budget is $300. Plus we're upgrading later on so we don't need the absolute best, he just wants to run most games at medium until we do upgrade.
Add in this PSU.

Cheap yet efficient.
Still $384.
Don't get the CoolerMaster (AKA Acbel Polytech re-brand) PSU. The CX 400 is a better choice even though it costs $5-10 more and it will last through some upgrades (the CoolerMaster is actually a 400W PSU as well, but it uses lower quality parts).
Take a 4650 / 4670 and/or Rosewill / CoolerMaster Elite case.
Either way it's still almost $100 overbudget.
I might just go with the one in the OP because that one actually has upgrading later on figured into it (Mgear made it) and it's within the budget.
No it isn't..

It's mostly the 4850 that brings it over budget.
Oh wow, I put the wrong GPU in, same brand but $50 more :v:
Try to get at least a 4670 if possible.
I put the PSU in the OP in for upgrading later, and it comes to $315.65 with shipping.
Think that should be good?
I put the 4650 in that you had.
What sort of upgrades have you got in mind..? Dual 5870s?
/sarcasm
That Antec is way more than is necessary. The money would be far better spent on getting a nicer graphics card now, rather than upgrading later and getting an overkill PSU.
The 4650 is not intended for gaming of any kind. It's a basic card for home theatre PCs, watching movies, etc. Again, for gaming you want a 4670 the very least and preferably a 4850.
You're the one that picked out the card, and the PSU won't be overkill once we upgrade. If we keep it low now we'll have to replace it. I'm just looking for a rig that can run most modern games at low\medium until we upgrade it a little more.

That PSU will do justice ^
That actually looks pretty good, and I can probably get a better GPU with the difference.

I think this is more with shipping but it gets you a nicer case but it is still not great so I would just stick with what you have.
Current build:

Does this look good now? I'll probably upgrade to a 4850 later.

This pops it up to like 326 but it has a much nicer case and the psu will run up to a 5770 comfortably.
Not bad
The case doesn't matter he likes the one I got anyways, and the psu I have in there now is 500w, that one is 400w.
500 is just the model; it's a 450W PSU. Both the Antec and Corsair are higher quality power supplies than the CoolerMaster. If you want a 500W power supply then get one, but that CM isn't one of them.
A PSU isn't good just because the name has a high number.

RS-500-PCAR-A3 500W ATX12V
And under specs:
Maximum Power 500W
Yeah, it's totally 450.
Please get your facts straight if you want to argue. Its maximum output is 450W, to be specific.

In comparison the Corsair has: http://www.corsair.com/products/cx/default.aspx
The Corsair matches this PSU and more: higher efficiency, longer warranty and higher quality components.

And either way both of them are overkill for this according to you, so what's it matter?
The second thing that we noticed on the label was the phrase “The +3.3 V & + 5 V & +12V1 & +12V2 combine power shall not exceed 431.5 W”. What? If you add this to the maximum power for -12 V and +5VSB we have a total of 450 W! So despite the product name, the label states in a format hard to be understood by the average user that this is in fact a 450 W power supply. As you know, we are completely against this kind of trick used by some manufacturers, and we honestly think that companies like this should be sued, as they are clearly trying to induce consumers to error. Nevertheless, for now we have to give Cooler Master the benefit of the doubt; let’s see during our load tests what is the real maximum power this unit can deliver.
You're the 'average user' here.
I didn't say the CX 400 was overkill, nor this overkill. I just said the Antec 650 was overkill and that this CM PSU isn't very good. Buy it if you want, it's not my money. Just offering my advice.
