Unsurprising with the way blizzard is dicking around stuff with the WCG
Drop Starcraft, and bring in Doom. Everyone enjoys Doom, and everyone understands Doom.
Starcraft is in really big trouble. People are leaving really rapidly. If Blizzard doesn't get their shit together really soon, Starcraft might disappear from the esports scene.
QuakeCon called. They want their content back.
Why limit a good thing? The IDL would gladly support such a thing.
I stopped following eSports when they dropped Halo. What have they got left, Call of Duty and Dota 2/League of Legends?
At least Valve and Riot care about supporting their games as a esport, as far as I can tell Blizzard don't give a shit.
So, what happened in the last year or so that killed Starcraft 2?
So, what happened in the last year or so that killed Starcraft 2?
Blizzard refused to support the tournament-holders. Riot forks over moolah to MLG for hosting their shit, the dudes behind World of Tanks also part with their money, and the same happens with Call of Duty and Activision. No point in supporting Starcraft 2 when the money you get is based off of what the publishers and developers are paying you to carry the game, and not viewer-counts.
So, what happened in the last year or so that killed Starcraft 2?
I'm not sure about the last year generally, but Blizzard rescheduled the WCS finals to all take place this weekend, at the exact same time as the dota 2 international finals which basically means no one will be watching the WCS.
damn that's really disappointing. I'm not a fan of Starcraft, but I know how big it is in other countries and the general esports scene. Blizzard really needs to step it up and start being a responsible pillar in competitive games and stop this underhanded corporate shit.
to be completely honest, I'm sort of glad Starcraft is a stagnated game that's more about APM than strategy and tactics. This is not how RTS should be.

The vehement dismissal of any argument with "BUT BROOD WAR WAS GOOD BLIZZARD KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING" at the end of the day, SC2 is proving that hard games just don't retain players, and it affects the pro-scene through stagnation.
and yet the community simply dismisses this as a casually turbulent moment, blindly believing that things will get better.
the community has been like that since release its like everyone trusts blizzard even though they have let everyone down repeatedly

I cannot understand how LoL could ever over-take SC2, or even Dota2. LoL is the most casual game I can think of save for facebook games..
I cannot understand how LoL could ever over-take SC2, or even Dota2. LoL is the most casual game I can think of save for facebook games..
more viewers because its more mainstream
LoL is overtaking because riot actually cares about the game blizzard just adds in more purchasable stuff and fucks over players BW had a good run, early times of SC2 was also quite good, but then.. yeah
MOBAs seem to be all the shit in esports these days. Such a shame that I fucking hate them.
I cannot understand how LoL could ever over-take SC2, or even Dota2. LoL is the most casual game I can think of save for facebook games..
Holyshit man, Great job at generalizing everyone that plays LoL. Just because it's easy to play doesn't mean it can't be played at a high level. That's like saying you don't understand why people watch soccer, because it's so easy everyone can play it. So stop being a dick and stop hating on a game because "ugh casuals".
I don't see how LoL is an easy game on the grand scale. You still have to learn moba mechanics. Unless they're a prodigy I highly doubt you can throw LoL at a dude with no experience with a MOBA and expect him to be good in a week or even a month.
I cannot understand how LoL could ever over-take SC2, or even Dota2. LoL is the most casual game I can think of save for facebook games..
LoL is a casual game compared to other Moba games, not games in general. What you just said is ignorant and stupid.
I cannot understand how LoL could ever over-take SC2, or even Dota2. LoL is the most casual game I can think of save for facebook games..
It's just so popular, you have literally hundreds of thousands of pre-teens playing that thing every day
I cannot understand how LoL could ever over-take SC2, or even Dota2. LoL is the most casual game I can think of save for facebook games..
I don't get where you guys get the idea that LoL is a casual game from. I used to play a lot of LoL and even played in a rather big tournament before switching to DOTA2 a year ago, and let me tell you, LoL takes a lot of time and knowledge to play effectively and becoming good at it requires a good bit of technical knowledge. Not saying LoL is equally challenging compared to DOTA2, for while LoL is challenging, DOTA2 really takes the cake when it comes to being hard to master. Also I don't get how you cannot understand why LoL overtakes SC2 on the e-sports scene. I mean come on, LoL is way easier to learn than SC2, therefore more people get into it, therefore more people watch it. It's simple logic.
What casters are intending on leaving?
total briscuit is looking to dota2, tasteless is talking to beyondthesummit about possibly casting dota2, and if he goes, artosis might try it with him (they cocast world of tanks for gom together)
