Please recommend me a good laptop for a 4 year college experience.
Depends on what you're doing with it though, everyone is going to recommenced some sort of windows based laptop, so start with that.
Budget?
Try a grand for a budget, and as for use the basic college needs, word processing, and other media stuff, and maybe a little gaming, but definitely not a gaming machine.
If you're not entirely against it, I'd say go with a netbook; good for word processing, watching videos, and even some light gaming. And it saves you some cash.
$300 netbook and $700 desktop for back in the dorm? That's what I'm planning on when I head off to college.
Maybe an MSI FX something. Those are quite reliable.

Reason why I didn't suggest $1000 computers is because honestly I would save the rest for something else. All of those computers are overkill for college working and adequate for gaming. Also I agree with the above posts, a netbook or some decent $500 laptop will be fine for about 4 years.
