• Remote desktop software

I need to control my desktop running Windows 7 with a Windows XP laptop, and want to know the best way of doing this. I've seen software for this before, but can't remember the names.
Windows Remote Desktop Connection should be built into Windows, open the Computer Properties box and go to the Remote tab to enable it.

How well does that work? Windows remote desktop, that is.
http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx
This is the simplest, most foolproof way. Even you can do it.
VNC uses the best protocol as it's cross platform, etc. But if you don't need to control other OSes, I suppose the above suggestions work fine.

TeamViewer all the way. It's the best out there in my experience.

I use Team Viewer when I'm on holiday using my laptop threw wireless. It works great.
I use Logmein Free incase my IP changes or to track my laptop by IP if it ever gets stolen.
SSH. :smugdog:
SSH. :smugdog:
I actually use microsoft's remote desktop over ssh. :smug:
I use Gbridge, near foolproof vpn/rdp/vnc/fileshareing. Requires a gmail account, but who doesn't have one of those? http://www.gbridge.com/ Yes it works with 7, I've tried it.

It has one-click remote desktop using ssh login credentials (Which is good, since winsshd uses windows logins by default if you allow them), an sftp brower, client and server port forwarding, and an ftp to stfp bridge. Nice since it's no problem to stream from that, as most media players support it.
