Hi, for some time I haven't played games because my computer keep freezing like 25-50 minutes in any game. It turns to a gray screen and the sound freezes in an infinite loop as well, all I can do is press and hold the power button till the computer shuts down.
I tried checking temps and this is what I got after 10 minutes of Dirt3 gameplay:

Specs:
Windows 7 Home 64bit
6gig ram (Can't remember any manufacturers)
nVidia 285GTX
Gigabyte technology EX58-UD3R Mobo
Intel Core i7 920
I have tried updating my graphics card drivers, patching my games and reinstalling, nothing works. I Haven't cleaned my pc inside every actually but it seems to me that temps are fine? I don't know much about it tho..
I haven't tried a clean windows install, but I would much prefer no to. I figured that some of my clever fellow FP'ers might know of a solution :)
Thanks in advance.
Temps are fine, not sure about voltages. But freezing usually indicates bad memory or a bad harddrive,
You should run memtestx86 for an hour or so and see if you get any errors. You can also use chkdsk on your drives to see if they are failing at all.
If it is indeed your memory, remove a stick of ram and see if the problem persists, if it does then swap the sticks.
Thank you, I will try that :D
Bumping this because i have a similar issue and I'm not sure which memtest is the right one, i remember using it a while ago but there's a bunch of different programs with a similar name, so could anyone link it please ?

Is there anything that doesn't require booting from a CD ? i don't have one.
I beleive you can boot memtest from a thumbdrive.

The site mentions nothing about it, and i can't get it working by throwing files into the drive.
I also tried check disc and i don't think it reported anything, I'll play a little bit of Dirt 3 and see what happens.

Alright, did one pass of memtest and it reported no errors, I'll try freezing it again to be sure it still happens and report back.
You have to run it for about 3-6 passes, one is not enough
