This is a surprise, seeing that E3 gameplay trailer I was expecting a linear story driven game.

Me too, I thought it was in the same vein as Bioshock
Except there is no procedural generation to be found in this Alpha build they released on early access.

I think there's supposed to be a story mode and a randomized mode.
'Sir You are being Hunted' proved just having a random world with an escape objective and not much else gets boring after one playthrough. So better that they are putting the linear story mode out first.

These are straight off the steam page.

This shows when you start up the game. It's partially procedurally generated right now and they're working on it more and more as time goes on.
I kickstarted the game and played it from the first build they released for backers to this currently early access version and they've slowly been adding in the procedural stuff.

i thought it was known for awhile that the map was procedurally generated. one of the devs commentated the extended gameplay and even that gameplay was procedurally generated, the intention being so people can't memorize the map between playthroughs and spoil it for other people or something like that.
the game is still gonna have a story, but all the important landmarks will be in different places per playthrough is what i gathered from the trailer
This is the kind of early access/in-development game that actually caught my interest. Definetly am going to buy it once there is a discount.
It looks fun, just hope enough is added / done before release
