At least, 7.5 tonnes of salvaged steel from the Twin Towers. Watch it come back home, under the eyes of the Lady of the Harbor The USS New York is a San Antonio-class amphibious assault vessel, which can carry 800 marines with their helicopters. The steel from the World Trade Center was used for its bow. If you are in New York, you can see it today near Zone Zero, on the south tip of Manhattan.
I found it touching that it stopped at the tip of Manhattan and had the sailors fire off a 21 gun salute. :patriot: :911:
Wow in comparison to the background buildings that thing is huge
Wow in comparison to the background buildings that thing is huge
Well it does have to carry a good portion of the Marines into a combat area so they can land on beaches and whatever else it is they do these days.
Quite beautiful, and a good use of materials.
Zone zero? I thought it was ground zero. How is it news? It launched like 2 years ago. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_New_York_(LPD-21)
big ass boat [editline]12:47AM[/editline]
Quite beautiful, and a good use of materials.
for $1.2 billion

wow that is huge, I want to see a supercarrier compared to those buildings
Japanese are going to Kamikaze it.
Hot damn, that thing really is huge. It's as big as most of the skyscrapers.
Small next to "Emma Mærsk" 400 meters long and 156.907 tons. :smug:
Huge symbolic ship built to compensate for the humiliating ass rape encountered by a mediocre terrorist group in 2001. I'm not impressed. :colbert:

Now the terrorists now need to make a boat out of the plane metals.
Don't be a dick, man. [editline]11:43PM[/editline] Also cool boat.
I'm serious. Al Qaeda =/= USSR or some super power. The US was brought down to its knees on September 11th by a few men who took a hold of some planes and were able to direct them to their targets. It's humiliating. The US, run by its economy, was crippled by the bombing of the World Trade Center; a place that brings together businesses and government agencies involved in foreign trade. The DOW fell 7.13% (huge drop by the way), the airlines and tourist industry were hit particularly hard. 9/11 was a loss. :911: [editline]07:55AM[/editline]
Now the terrorists now need to make a boat out of the plane metals.
Way ahead of yah:
That's a good looking ship. :patriot:
I was expecting more of a pure "Fuck you up" ship, like the Iowa class (shame they don't build those anymore, though) or perhaps a supercarrier, but this is cool too.
7.5 tonnes of salvaged steel from the Twin Towers
thats nothing...
I wish they made it into an aircraft carrier.
thats nothing...
well the ship wights 24,900 tons so it's a little less than a third...
Nobody cares about 9/11 anymore
That's the equivalent to saying nobody cares about WWII anymore.
That's the equivalent to saying nobody cares about WWII anymore.
No, they made games of ww2. so its way cooler.
That's the equivalent to saying nobody cares about WWII anymore.
No it's even worse! I mean, who cares about the 25000000+ people that died WHEN THERE'S TWO BUILDINGS COLLAPSED WITH 3,000 PEOPLE DEAD!
i dont know man whats more important a world war or terror attack on a skyscraper in usa
That's the equivalent to saying nobody cares about WWII anymore.
Jesus those twin towers must have been pretty damn big to have had several million people die.
