• I'm building a new computer. What do you think of these components?

On my current computer I have upgraded many parts in the duration of six years, but I have never built an entire computer. I just need to know if I'm doing this right. I've been a loyal intel/nvidia customer for a long time, but it seems that I must adjust to amd parts if I'm going to save money. My budget is around $900, and this list totals to around $800. I already have the peripherals. psu (650W) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371015 gpu (Radeon HD 6850) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125353&cm_re=Radeon_HD_6850-_-14-125-353-_-Product cpu (Phenom II X6 1100T w/ stock heatsink) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103913 hd (1tb) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=22-148-697&SortField=1&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Page=2#scrollFullInfo mobo (ASUS M4A79XTD EVO) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131402 ram (8gb) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL050311&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL050311-_-EMC-050311-Index-_-DesktopMemory-_-20233144-L0B case (full tower) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811166004 sound card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=29-132-020&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&PurchaseMark=&SelectedRating=-1&VideoOnlyMark=False&VendorMark=&IsFeedbackTab=true&Keywords=game&Page=1#scrollFullInfo cd drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106274 I've used videocardbenchmark.net to determine that the cpu and gpu on this list has the best performance per dollar, but what do you think? Do you recommend those parts according to your knowledge? I edit a lot of hd footage, mess around with fl studio, and play graphics-intensive games. On my current computer it would take me roughly 30 minutes to produce a 3 minute 720p movie. I hate that. I'd also wouldn't mind playing something like Crysis at full settings. My basic current specs are 2.66ghz C2D, 9800gt, 3.5gb. I'm convinced I will see some significant improvements. Are there any components you suggest I replace? Or is this a good setup and I can go ahead and purchase them? Thanks.
That's really bad, you can get a better sandy bridge system for $700 [editline]15th May 2011[/editline] I'll put a list together.
Thanks. I was just going by the information on cpubenchmark.net to choose my cpu. According to that the Phenom II X6 1100T got 6278 marks while the Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge ($10 more) received 6848. Is that really worth it? and I've been researching parts and revising the list for about two weeks now (trying to get it as affordable as possible). Hard to believe it's possible to build a better one for $700, but I'm no expert.

Total = 919.19 plus $27 shipping (on a big order like this, I suggest using the free trial of Shop Runner for free 2 day shipping) I'm a little over 900 but feel free to get a cheaper motherboard, I just wasn't happy with any of them and I'm just awful at picking them. Wow, thanks so much for putting in effort to help me out. I really appreciate it. I'm looking over your list and it seems pretty good. Although I'd get a much cheaper motherboard, bringing the total to around $800 again. And you're sure the parts will fit into a mid tower case? Especially the GPU? Say I want to put in a high end heatsink for the cpu (in the future). I would most likely have to remove the side panel permanently, right? Thanks again.

I just had an IM conversation with a friend of mine and coincidentally his dad has the Core i5-2500K. He went from 3.7 to 5.2 on a stock fan still running cool at 26C. Is this really possible? (I'm not familiar with Sandy Bridge. I honestly have no idea.)
The Sandy Bridge architecture has absolutely amazing overclocking possibilities. 5.2 on stock seems a little out there, but I suppose it could be possible given just the right conditions.
