A crApple a day: Apple withholding Siri for iPhone 4 to sell hardware
Normally we pass on Mac or iPhone specific news, but just in case it ever comes up in a debate, 9 to 5 Mac has proven that without a doubt, Apple is indeed shafting iPhone 4 customers. It seems an enterprising young hacker by the name of Steven Smith has not only ported the Siri AI interface to the iPhone 4, but the two way communication with Apple servers is now working perfectly.
This is Sirisly fucked up
Um.. I thought everyone knew that?
what's new...
Yeah, moneygrabbing fucktards.
Is anyone really surprised? I like Apple's stuff but this is quite typical of their business practices.
No shit.
I thought it was just a part of iOS 5? That's lame.

It's part of their plan to sell you crap that could just as easily be an app.

Well, shit. I was just about to happily fire up an iOS 5 update till I read your post. :(

Many people don't know this, but Siri was an app not just for iOS, but also for Android (and I believe Blackberry), until Apple bought it out and pulled all the other versions.
Now I dislike Apple as much as any sane individual, but the title is kinda over the top.
That said, I'm not surprised at all.
Knowing Apple's business strategy and all that.
And that's just one of the things which could be ported back to previous gen iPhones.

Siri, before it was bought out, was available on the iPod 2G and up and all iPhone models I do believe.
Wow, that's annoying.
I'd hope it would be a temporary thing, and they'd release it on the App store later for iPhone 4, but I think I'm being kinda optimistic in thinking that.
This isn't that surprising.
IIRC, they have done this many times before.
Ha, reminds me of Microsoft using Halo 2 to force people to buy Vista, until people figured out how to crack it for XP. It's one of the oldest tech tricks in the book, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple was holding onto the Siri software until they had a "new" phone to hawk along with it.
I saw this coming a mile away. Apple is just being apple, nothing to see here move along.
On the up side I might have a good excuse to re-jailbreak my iPhone when this goes public.
I wonder if Apple will ever get a better attitude about this kind of thing.
It's not really likely is it?

They'll sell you a bottle of lube so it doesn't hurt so much when you get reamed from behind.
But it costs 500$ for 100 MilliLiter.
How considerate.
This is news?
I dont get why people are acting like apple pulled some nasty new tech trick. This has happened so many times before. Consoles do it all the time, Microsoft does it all the time. This is nothing new or apple exclusive.
It's how the tech industry works, exclusivity of abilities to newer products.
Other industries do it with things that run on the software layer, GPU manufacturers for instance intentionally cut features for older cards that are still quite capable in driver support.
There's nothing wrong with the iPhone 4S - it's got some beastly hardware for a smartphone, we just need the apps to come through and take advantage of it.
Basically, Apple and their products are currently a perfect business model in capitalist society.

Yup.
They're still assholes.
I can understand if they're wanting to limit the userbase because of server stress, but seriously? This is Apple we're talking about.
