Recently my computer has been having periods of extreme slow down. It is a Gateway all in one touch screen computer.
During these periods the task manager would show 0% - 3% CPU usage and 33% memory usage. It can take about a full 2 minutes to go from normal task manager to admin task manager when it slows down. The odd thing is that the programs are slowing down but the start menu is still at normal speed.
I have scanned with Hitman pro and found nothing.
One other thing is that after the slow down period, I open firefox only to see it freeze on a blank page. After closing and opening it goes back to normal.
Windows 7
4GB Ram DDR2
2.4GHz quad
500gb hard drive
The slowdown occurs at random and there seems to be no program that really coincides with it's occurrence except for Firefox.
Is there any obvious solution that I may have overlooked?
Also the computer is in the open and shows no signs of overheating.
Thank you for your time reading this message.
Check to see if your games or other files aren't taking up space. Is there a certain time of day this happens at?
I don't think there has been any correlation between the occurrence and the time of day.

64- or 32-bit?
