Two weeks ago, a judge in Brooklyn ordered prosecutors to produce a confidential informant that cops were accused of inventing as part of a scheme to boost the numbers of gun arrests via planting weapons on innocent men. The scenario described in court usually went as follows: a tip came in from a “confidential informant” that someone had a gun. Officers would then find a man who matches the description at a reported location, then a gun is discovered and an arrest is made.
Other similarities shared in the scenarios? Guns were found in plastic bags or handkerchiefs without a trace of the suspect’s fingerprints, and the presence of an informant wasn’t mentioned until months after the arrest. Also, none of the informants have come forward.

Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Dineen Riviezzo adjourned Herring’s case until Jan. 15 and told prosecutors that the case will be resolved at that date unless they produced the informant. Prosecutors said they had found the informant but needed more time to investigate Herring’s case.
The article also references this part below here, which is relevant and also very very interesting and I suggest you read it.
In 2011, while caught up in a corruption scandal, former NYPD Detective Stephen Anderson testified in court that fabricating drug charges on innocent victims to meet quotas was common practice. Three years later, cops in Brooklyn are again accused of planting evidence and allegedly lying about “informants” to make gun-related arrests.

Seems like a common occurrence.
Ok. Who's alt are you?

No agenda being pushed here, no sir...
(User was banned for this post ("Off-Topic" - rilez))
Are you gonna be the Lamar of "cops doing bad thing" threads?
(User was banned for this post ("Off-Topic" - rilez))
Well, I'm just providing recent news. You can dismiss it as agenda, which is very convenient if you don't have arguments to oppose with. Feel free to discuss as you like, even if I had an agenda it wouldn't change to content in the articles.
Look, I should have every reason to oppose cops, but I don't. You're cherry picking news stories in order to further your view of the world.

Well there's certainly no shortage of police misconduct stories to choose from.
Endemic misconduct is not a "world view". It's an objective, clear fact.
You know damn well what you're doing. You're spamming the section with the same types of news stories in some vain attempt to ??? I don't even know because it's not anything productive.
The only thing you're going to accomplish is entrenching people in their opinion. Do yourself and the rest of the forum a favor and stop.
See? We don't need Cubeman to have his job done

I don't see the OP pushing his own opinion, just posting the article and the facts from the news source.
I don't think there is a rule against only starting threads on police brutality.

Sure there's no written rule on selective reporting, but look what happened to laserguided.

3 stories were posted in the same day about the same thing by the same person.
There may not be a rule specifically but as a forum member I think I can still voice my opinion about how full of shit the OP is when they say all that they want to do is share the information.
I'm sure I'm going to make a idiot out of myself, but take a look at our "discussion" we had in our profiles.
This guy is a damn fool.
Edit - What? they got removed?
Edit 2 - Hah. Apparently he deleted my messages from his profile. Calling me a racist cop lover. Nice work w00t. Would be nice if a mod restored it.

I knew exactly what you were trying to do from the first thread you posted. Just stop man, we got it, you hate cops and want to decapitate your parents for not letting you watch anime.
(User was banned for this post ("Off-Topic" - rilez))
I like how literally no one in the thread has actually discussed or commented on the article :D Just a bunch of people evading
EDIT: Mods could probably just remove it since it seems there is nothing to discuss, for some reason...

I think this is a shame, sure, but this isn't the first nor the last time it'll happen and I think you're selecting articles that are showing the police doing negative (because they can only do negative) to further your anti-police view.

If you're going to call out or deride others for being offtopic, evading problematic challenges, or for not discussing the meat of the thread in spirit, it's probably not wise nor very influential to do the same yourself with the same breath.

You've got 3 posts on the first page of SH, and they are all anti-police.

Very true. So I'll try and spark some discussion here.
This is from the referenced article
According to the New York Daily News, the practice is known among NYPD officers as “flaking,” and officers in Brooklyn and Queens narcotics squads were doing a whole lot of it.
Combine it with this, from the same article
According to the DPA, the NYPD has recently come under fire recently for the arrests of more than 50,000 people last year for low-level marijuana offenses – 86% of whom are black and Latino – making marijuana possession the number one offense in the City. The group is also critical of the NYPD’s controversial stop-and-frisk practice.
How many of those were falsely accused? I think it is very dangerous when this happens, and when the cops salary and jobs depend on the amount of suspects they bring in. Now, obviously drugs aren't the only things that are planted, but weapons too. In the first article there's about a young man who the police shot and later put a gun next to, which seems like it came straight out of L.A Confidential. Very scary, and the scariest part is that I don't know how to fix this. It's obvious that corruption is deeply rooted in the police force, and body cams won't go a long way, especially when the American justice system often abstain from independent prosecutors. I can't think of any other solution but to completely reform the police forces as we know them today. I know that Obama recently pushed for body cams and independent prosecutors, which is obviously a step in the right direction and an initiative I hope will keep bringing positive news in the future.

Written like a true high schooler.
Just because a few cases of the NYPD being corrupt (surprise) have appeared doesn't mean that 50,000 arrests are all false accusations. Weed is by far the most popular illegal drug out there and probably a very large portion of New Yorkers are carrying at any one time. Questionable searches of stupid people = big legal arrest numbers. Any city in America will exhibit the same trend.

Don't doubt you on that. I just wondered how many of these could've been false, seeing the officers testimony. It was from the same article, and he obviously wanted to highlight something. What do you think about the rest I wrote?
yawmwen is that you
i havent seen such hatred of the constabulary since him

Also my uncle is a law enforcer, and a damn good one too, never heard a single thing bad about what he does.
So yeah, unless any bad cop incident is like the video that started the LA Riots (which was fucking atrocious), then I'm either taking alot of these with a grain of salt, or just assuming the OP is a Cubeman/Yawman.

What do you take with a grain of salt? All of these anonymous cops who have come forward talking about flaking? If you like the police so much, don't you want it to be a good organization without all these corruptions in it, or do you like the police force as it stands today; plagued with criticism and severe accusations? Or are you just going to be angry at me for posting these news, instead of the policemen committing the crimes? Jesus Christ, why do you seem to think that the police can do nothing wrong?
Jesus Christ, why do you seem to think that the police can do nothing wrong?
It's funny when people say this because it applies both ways. Why do you think the police are required to do nothing wrong? They're only human. Where do you expect to find these magical superhumans that don't lie, don't cheat, and don't steal?

I don't think that way. However I do hope that the people in the force at least have the common decency not to commit crimes, that's really the only thing I wish. However, no news site would post a story titled "Thousands of cops do not plant evidence every day" (because that would seem redundant, like posting "janitor cleans up aisle"), so that doesn't give me a lot to post.
