I never knew they didnt do this
Satellites haven't been able to provide complete global coverage, so it's no surprise that they couldn't do that. It should be mandated for international air travel that these satellite connections are required for all commercial jets.
You know how many planes are in the air at any given time? That is a hell of a tall order. More than 10,000 at any one time globally during the peak hours and that doesn't even count general aviation

There are hundreds of them.
