I'm going to be building a new computer soon, and I need to know if I should get a gtx 460, or sli them.
Im going to be getting an msi am3 sli mobo with a a 1055t phenom cpu with 4gb of ddr3 1600 ram.
I plan on playing my games on my 42in 1080p tv. And I want a 60+ fps on max settings and a 1920x1080 resolution.
The game I'm getting this most for is Fallout New Vegas.
What kind of framerate's can I expect with that setup with those settings. Or if I should change something with my setup to improve.
your fine with a single gtx 460, it's similar performance wise to a 5830 and can over clock like a bitch
you'll have no problems
if this is just for games get the phenom II 955 instead of the 1055
I might do that, but I also use Inventor as part of my job, and I heard that more physical cpu's would be better for rendering files. And since I don't need a sli motherboard, what would be a suitable motherboard?
if you'll benefit from it then keep the X6
and keep the sli mobo, sli is a good future upgrade option but not ideal to start a build with it
I got a Phenom II 955 and a GTX 460 1 gig mere days ago. The 460 has handled every game I've tried to far perfectly (1920x1080, all settings high, around 60 fps).
You'll be fine with a single 460.
DO NOT FORGET ONE DETAIL:
for your res, IT HAS TO BE a 1GB 460, a 768mb is pretty much useless past 1680x1050
Yea I was planning on getting the msi 1gb cyclone.
Yea I was planning on getting the msi 1gb cyclone.
Then I suggest looking at this for a reference OC:

Anyways the 460 can handle games exceptionally well up until resolutions after 1920x1200
This article has a range of benchmarks for high resolutions:

As you're going to play at a very high resolution, you'd be better of SLI'ing the two GTX 460's.
EDIT: Oh, and get the 1GB versions, preferably the ones with Cyclone coolers.
I heard ASUS OC GTX 460 1GB (775Mhz) was good, at least better than Gainward/Palit, because there is an VRM on this graphic card.
Buy the not OC'ed edition and OC it afterwards using MSI afterburner, if it wasn't what you were planning in the first place.
Buy 1 460 now and then later when the prices drop buy a second and SLi for a cheap performance boost.

by that time, he could just buy a newer card that outperforms the two in SLi for less. Such is the marketing tactic of dual graphics cards.

And Keep the 460 as a dedicated PhysX card + Tesselator engine
Sorry but I feel like hijacking the thread a little, as it's a question thread about the 460...
Will I notice a big differense getting this card, upgrading from a 8800GTX SLi rig?
Not that much of a difference, but yeah, there will.
And you get DX11. But do you need it?
Not now, but maybe in the distant future. I'm only upgrading mobo, cpu, ram and buying a new case so far, but the GTX460 do look nice and all.
Wait.
Seems a bit much for Fallout New Vegas. Go for it anyways, the engine is pretty well optimised so I don't think you'll ever have any FPS issues maxed out with that rig on New Vegas.
Quick question OP, what motherboard are you planning on getting exactly? Got any links for stats?

Also, Im running a similar build only with the 955BE instead and a single GTX 260. I play Fallout 3 allot! and its a walk in the park on maxed out settings at 1080 res. I’m assuming New Vegas will be very similar so I wouldn't worry too much. The build you’re planning will smash it.
Sli gtx 460
Sli gtx 460
They actually scale pretty darn well, something like 60-96& depending on the game.. And OC them for god's sake.
And get transparency in that avatar.
Why don't you just research it yourself? It's called youtube, there are plenty of reviews and benchmarks on it.
Type in "gtx 460 fallout new vegas" and I'm certain that should come up with some good results.

It's called google, not youtube.
And Fallout New Vegas isn't even out yet. Why don't you research a little?

If you'd bothered to look at the benchmarks then you'd see that it had benchmarks for both

Lol that came back at me rather spectacularly.
But anyways, On the last paragraph I meant Google. I was going to say and search engine but I was too lazy.
I read a review on kotaku about fallout new Vegas so I just assumed it was released.
Fair enough, it was for the most part a joke.. You can't expect people to know the release date of any game, can you?
