• My "Linksys WGA11B Game Adapter" is quite dumb.

So when I bought my original Xbox, I also bought a Linksys WGA11B adapter. I've been using it since then, and now use it for my 360. Recently, I lost Xbox Live for a while because my father changed the wireless a bit (I'm not entirely sure what he did), and when I go to plug in the Adapter, I find I have to set it up again. So I go to my computer, start up the Setup Utility, press the Setup button, and a cute little error pops up saying "The Setup Utility was unable to locate an Wireless-B Game Adapter on your network. Please make sure your Wireless-B Game Adapter is powered on and any cables are properly connected." Oh, really? That poses a bit of a problem, considering everything IS plugged in and the power is on on both my Xbox 360 AND the Adapter. So, I take it to my computer, plug it into the router directly, and the setup goes perfectly. Then, I go to the Xbox again, plug it in, and guess what? The same error pops up. Great. Now that you've hopefully read through this, maybe you can help me out. If not, sorry for the large amount of letters. Also, the router I have is the Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824 v2. Don't know if that will help, but why not.
why did your father "changed the wireless a bit"?
To prevent my sister from accessing the wireless.
HAHAHHAA, finally fixed it. alright guys i've had the same problem with this stupid gaming adapter and I searched all over the internet and heard various things about using UTP rated cables and using preferred ip address rather than dynamic (sometimes wrongfully referred to as "static"), however none proved to be helpful. Finally I got the notion to try a different computer. Originally I was using a Toshiba Satellite notebook running windows VISTA 32 bit operating system with n wireless capabilities but nothing seemed to work. I then switched to my old Dell inspiron b130 with 54 g wireless running windows XP 32 bit operating system. I believe it's a VISTA problem cause i tried setting up the adapter on a gateway laptop running vista and it failed too, same error "can't find adapter..." I know this won't fix everyone's problem but I hope it will help some of you. what a pain in the @##

The Xbox 360 doesn't run on Vista, and you probably have a different adapter than he does. I don't see how a standard internet protocol can cause issues between operating systems. Maybe your issue was that you didn't install a driver for your adapter. And your XP computer already HAD wireless, how do you know it wasn't running through that? Welcome to FP, note that there's no bad word filter, and we prefer to write cleaner posts with proper grammar. To the OP: Is it the adapter that can't be found on your Xbox, or is it a connection to the internet that can't be found? If it is the latter, look at the router's settings and see which local IP is blocked (the one your dad blocked so your sister can't access it) and set a static IP on Network Settings and use any other local IP besides any other taken ones. But then why do you get connection on your computer... hmm
thread is from 0 fucking 8.
