The fact that developers generally abandon DLC after 6 months from release date and don't is actually interesting. Some people probably see it as money grabbing but its literally keeping the game fresh for a long time. Just imagine if Smash Brothers had DLC releases for the next 4 years, then it wouldn't be a unbearable wait to get new characters!
It's so expensive to make a new game these days, I'm not surprised.

The thing is, Smash Bros. is a console-exclusive game. Traditionally, console games are unmoddable. They're kinda reliant on DLC. On PC, DLC should either be free, nonexistent, or at least cosmetic [B]in favor of having mod tools.[/B]
Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source both lived for years on mod tools, and they wouldn't have even existed if the original Half-Life had everything locked down and unmoddable.
