• Difference between these 2 memory sticks, and will they work with my motherboard?

My mom's been meaning to upgrade her computer with my old parts for a while now. All she needs is some DDR2 Ram, so rather than waste money on herself some DDR2 ram, she wants to buy me some DDR3 ram, and use my DDR2 sticks in hers so she can finish her upgrade. This is my motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=N68C-S%20UCC It supports DDR3 only with a AM3 processor (I have an Athlon II 640 which IS an AM3 processor). These are the ram sets I'm looking at but I want to know the difference, and if they're compatible with my motherboard: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-%282x2gb%29-corsair-xms3-classic-ddr3-pc3-10666-%281333%29-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-9-9-24-150v http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-corsair-xms3-ddr3-pc3-10666-%281333%29-non-ecc-unbuffered-cas-9-9-9-24-150v
The second one is a single 4GB stick, other than that they are exactly the same, your motherboard should support both but you are better of with the 2x2GB to be sure.

I've heard some bad things about asrock's in the past, but this motherboard seems to be rock solid stable.

The only problem I've had is SMART isn't read with the drivers installed, generic drivers allow SMART to be read, and the CPU temps in Speccy, HWMonitor, etc, are off. The on board audio's great, though. There's no real problems with the motherboard if you don't need a higher TDP. [editline]10th January 2011[/editline] I have a 425 Rana @ 3.1 Ghz, 4850, and 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM with a 500 Watt Antec modular PSU.
If your CPU is a AM3 processor, you can use DDR3.. I don't know why you're sticking DDR2 RAM on a DDR3 supporting AM3 processor. Your board supports 1600 dual channel ram, so you should stick in 4 x 2GB 1600mhz.. pretty cheap if you get some shit like a Fry's sale or whatever.

Now his Mom needs more RAM so he has an opportunity for a free upgrade. The motherboard supports DDR2 and 3.

It was terrible as I thought I had wasted my money at the time. But since the shop owner reccomended me the motherboard for the CPU he gave me the Athlon II 640 for 1/4th price.
