• Help fix my TV

Hey whats going on guys. I got a 47" Phillips TV off a mate of mine for free, but it has a problem with it, which is why it was free. Hopefully it can be fixed fairly cheap, I'm hoping it is just a little problem that can be fixed easy enough by me, I have seen tutorials on YouTube about replacing video cards on televisions and all so I hope it might not be too bad. I have included a picture of the problem, basically when you turn the TV on, screen is unnaturally fuzzy, one half is sort of green with the other half a different color. So let me know what you think. Also can anybody link me to a popular TV Help forum, so I could post this question there too. Thanks boys.
Televisions don't have video cards.. That monitor is quite fucked, it looks like the LCD screen itself is bad, and you can't replace that cheaply.
Loose connector I presume. I give this a 90% chance that you wont be able to fix this yourself since all the manifacturers just bake everything on one board these days, allowing nothing to be replaced/fixed. Annyways: Does it do this with all the inputs?
The LCD panel might not be fully connected, it's pretty screwed looking so just open it up and look around.
So do you guys think it is a loose connection or the plasma has gone? If the plasma has gone is it really expensive to fix?

Open it up and check if the capacitors looks as they should Good: Bad: (Notice the top of left one) If e.g thetop peice has popped off or something else that looks wrong it needs replacing And as said, check for loose connections

Wait in that picture, which one is bad? I can't see which is out of place since I have no idea about the innards of a TV. So do you think it is just a loose connection? And if it helps, the back of the TV seems pretty hot after being on for a bit.

Haha jesus rate me dumb, I was looking at the top left of the image. Ha stupid me. So if the thing on my TV looks like that do I just get a new one of them to see if it works?
Throw it in the trash if you don't know what a bad capacitor looks like you can't fix it. If you're still dedicated to repairing it then let it be known that there are like 50 caps any one of them could be bad. Also that the inside looks like this :
How much would it cost to get this fixed do you think
How much would it cost to get this fixed do you think
More then a new tv if you send it to philips. (I work at a store that sells this shit) And it really depends on whats broken if you bring it to a local repair shop.
Hmm, so the best thing to do would be bring it to a local repair shop and ask them exactly what is wrong with it? And then maybe buy the stuff myself?
They are gonna charge you for looking at it. What tv is it annyway, lets check if its worth annything first. Should be something like 47Pfl####/## Looking at the stand and screen border its pretty old. Probably 2-3 years or so.
It's the screen holy balls guys, he's not going to be able to fix it without buying a whole new screen-projector-lightmaker-thing.
It's the screen holy balls guys, he's not going to be able to fix it without buying a whole new screen-projector-lightmaker-thing.
This isnt a rear projector tv, and I doubt its the screen itself.
This isnt a rear projector tv, and I doubt its the screen itself.
I bet you $200 via paypal it is. And no fucking shit it's not a projection TV, I just tried to make a joke.
The make of it is 42pfp5332/10
Seize:42" Screen:Plasma Res: 1024x768 (XGA) (Standard is 1920*1080) Contrast 15.000:1 (very low) Last sell I can find is end of 2009 for 800€ in the Netherlands. (Philips HQ) This isnt really a great TV by todays standards. Older plasma's have a few disatvantages that lead up to the point that here, only samsung ad panasonic are still making them. (Burn in/Power hog) You can get a better tv for around 400€ here so thats what you have to work with.
The dead vertical lines are an obvious sign that the POP connectors (pad-on-pad) that connect the controller to the actual LCD have separeted. You can't really fix that as the ribbon cables are plastic with film conductors and melt when heated. OP, you're going to have to let this one pass as it's cheaper to find another 42" than replace the entire LCD.

How much do you think I could get if it sold it like this? Or would I get anything at all?
