Having thoroughly read the second paragraph, am I right in assuming that the things in this DLC pack are pixelated?
This is about as "retro" as those indie games that look like shit because they're supposed to be nostalgic or something.

You have to lure idiots in somehow.
That's not retro. That's blocky.
I like it. Sorry guys, I'll let you crucify me now
[editline]28th August 2012[/editline]
I mean I think it should be free obv. but it still looks neat
Meh, $2. If people want to waste their money on stuff like this I won't stop them.

Yeh, it's better than 40$ for that angry birds console dlc
Yay developer bandwagons, retro = old and old = vintage and vintage = cool
Except EVERYBODY is doing retro games now, so it's not impressive
What a redundant title.
Remember when this sort of mode used to be accessible via secret cheat codes without paying?
Wasn't interested as I'm usually interested in cosmetic crap until I saw...
8-Bit Cartridge will launch this Friday, August 31 at 160 Microsoft Points ($2) but if you're headed to PAX Prime over the weekend you can visit Halfbrick's booth to pick up a free download code.
I guess I could take 5 minutes out of the day to do that.
its a fucking simplistic game, why can't they just leave it at that.
i mean really, fruit flys up, you try to cut it in half.
leave it at that, please. you don't need extra skins, tracers, DLCs, or whatever else.
And I also hate how most indie games are trying to be all "retro 8-bit/16-bit".
Say, something like Fez, or even BIT.TRIP RUNNER/Beat.
8-bit
so retro
Dey stule Minecraft's artstyule man!
It doesn't matter that a lot of developers are jumping on the retro-8-bit wagon, it's still neat and adds a lot of charm.

Bit. Trip Runner is pixelated art style done right IMO. It's blocky but it looks good and modern because it's 3D.
I hate this trend of indie games to go 'retro'
compare these two games, one is a retro game, the other is trying to recreate it

[sp]don't shout at me because its' bit.trip runner, there's probably better examples but hey[/sp]
they look nothing alike. Retro games weren't fun to play because of their graphics, they were fun to play because of their gameplay. That was the point.
If they want to emulate 'retro' games, they should make games that expand and improve on the gameplay of a retro game, not make everything blocky and slap a "RETRO" tag on the side
This used to be cool in like, 2009, but this retro blocky stuff is just way too overdone these days
This game has the correct way to be Retro:

This DLC...looks nothing Retro whatsoever.

If you're a sprite artist, and you decide to be a lazy fucktard by making low-res sprites, at least do it properly by also limiting the fucking colour palette.

no its because indie devs are lazy cunts

VVVVVV does something like that, too. Except that one actually felt like it was trying to be a really hard NES/Atari game and not "HURDUR 8-BIT/BLOCKS THIS IS SO RETRO".

Like the people above me said, it's way overdone. I mean, at least look at Super Meat Boy, that was trying to be retro but they didn't put "squares and pixels/bits" everywhere, just in the warp zones.

I wouldn't use BIT.TRIP as an example of games overly trying to be retro. You can even see in that screenshot that they're trying to go for a mix of old and new with the voxel-esque style. Not to mention it's 3 years old, so it was one of the earlier games doing that kind of neo-retro feel. Making things pixels for the sake of being pixels is getting incredibly annoying though. I'd much rather see platformers that look like Braid or Rayman Origins, that take advantage of current HD technology.

Speaking about BIT.TRIP, the second RUNNER game won't be in voxel 8-bit esque style. They're trying to make it fully 3D. However, it's not part of the Bit Trip series, so it's just called "Runner 2"
