• Atom processor and XMBC + 1080p movies?

I have an idea of building a media center, and the cheapest option for this is to get one of those Mini-ITX motherboards with inbuilt Atom processor, but is the atom-series processors really powerfull enough to decode and play 1080p movie files? It won't be using the integrated graphics by the way, it'll probably get a low-profile 5450 to do the job for it.
You would need a dual core atom at the least to be able to decode 1080p. I think you can set it though to use the GPU to decode instead so it might still work out.
Was thinking of this; http://www.edbpriser.dk/Product/Details.aspx?pid=702230 http://www.edbpriser.dk/Product/Details.aspx?pid=778685 ZOTAC F-SERIES with Atom 330 @ 1.6GHz, and a 5450 to take some of the load off the CPU.
This article might be of some help http://www.guru3d.com/article/accelerate-x264-1080p-movies-over-the-gpu-guide/

Basement, and parent's bedroom. They work wonders.
And so the final build looks like this; ZOTAC F-SERIES w/ Atom 330 Corsair Value Select 1 x 2 GB Silverstone SUGO SG02 ASUS BC 08B1ST Samsung SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB
interesting i have been thinking of building exactly the same sort of system to replace my popcornhour a-110, was also going to use a 5450 for hdaudio bitstreaming (ion can only do lpcm). would be interested to know if all that fits into a sugo case, i was going to use an external bluray drive but internals are much cheaper
i would suggest a low end dual core athlon
the ion is fine for pure media playback, the gpu can use cuda or dxva to decode the videostream only problems i believe are flash and no truehd/dts-hd over hdmi but lpcm would be enough for most people. zotac also do mini-itx boards that take lga775 and 1156 cpu's, they dont cost that much more (the board itself is the same you just have to get a cpu) so they are probably a good option as well
For the price of that motherboard, I can apparently get a µATX board and a low-end i3 and that 5450 from before. I think I might go with that instead.
