i have been using vista since i got this computer back in the fall then made it dual boot windows 7 and vista, but resently windows 7 had started haveing the problem below. so i moved to vista and its have the same problems as before where it crashes around once a day along with a whole lot of other problems that i have fixed since then. it usually reads:
*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
*** The system has halted ***
i looked it up and some of the problems it could be is that the ram is bad, that you have bad hardware is bad or that the drivers are the problem, now i think the ram and the hardware is ok because i also have the windows 7 RC and Ubuntu on it. i have updated all the drivers i have found and it has done nuthing so i was wondering if there was anyone who has any ideas OTHER than vista sucks.
my next question was that windows 7 has always had a problem with my networking card(not connecting to the internet after randomly dissconnecting) and now its just so slow that i cant really do anything on it(one of my friends connected and he had a ping <900 when his pings used to be around 60 is just one example.) i have updated the drivers and it didn't do anything so maybe it something else?
here are my specs:
XPS 630
Nvidia 9800 GT
4x 1GB of DIMM2(i think)
Nivida nforce 650i sli
i got to leave to go do something and had to rush some of the post.(might have typos)
What network card do you have?
What network card do you have?
its on the motherboard.
I think i fixed the vista problem(that is if a overheated gpu would do that) and i think i found out why I'm having networking problems on windows 7. when i turned on my laptop and it connected to the internet i didn't have connection and i lost it on my desktop(the one running windows 7) and it said that it was not a valid ip address, so I'm thinking that my laptop is trying to use the same ip as my desktop and that's whats causing this. so im going to try a static ip on my desktop and see if that helps(maybe on the laptop too if it does not).
Another possibility for the slow network is if you have torrents or dls going on the other computer when you try to access the network with the one having the issues. A major culprit is bittorrent if you do not restrict your upload, your connection will be slow as dirt. A healthy upload is neccesary for good DL speeds too. (If your upload is choked, your computer can listen but cant talk back quick enough for games and etc..)

oops i forgot to say that the reason that it was slow was because of utorrent(did it in vista too).
