PRE-LOADING HAS BEGUN THROUGH STEAM AND SOCIAL CLUB
With how big the game is, many won't be able to pre-load before release.
Man I'm hyped for this. I've been doing a pretty good job of not spoiling anything about it.
Here's how long it will take to download the 65 GB:

Imagine being on 10 Gbps and being able to download a massive game in under a minute.

Who the fuck is using 512k in 2015?
If I start preloading on April 7 and let my computer on all the way to April 14, I may easily get to 2%.
Baby steps, Rockstar...
Sooo no chance of a physical copy I assume?
I hope this cuts back on the crazy stress for steam servers, I remember when Skyrim released, I literally couldn't download faster than 30 KB/s on steam
Who the fuck is using 512k in 2015?
I am. On the upload side of things though, sadly. Fuck horribly asymmetric connections, this thing can't even sustain a low quality stream without crazy artifacting.
But that (and the lower speeds) are there just for reference purposes.
3 hours it is then !
14 hours woo
[editline]4th April 2015[/editline]
that's like how long I sleep during weekends anyways so

Thank Christ I have a college campus to download it at.

Your storage probably wouldn't be able to write that fast, unless you had multiple SSDs in a RAID.

Aw what, eleven days?

Keep in mind this is in bits, not bytes. Steam reports download speeds in bytes.
1 byte = 8 bits. Aka take your general steam download rate, multiple by 8. Then find that number in this chart.

You wouldn't be able too because your NB will bottleneck unless you're on an Enterprise level chipset

One of my friends is on 10Gbps Internet (US Internet, Minneapolis), its fucking amazing being able to download most shit instantly. Though yeah, Read and Write speeds bottleneck it quite a lot.

Or own a PCI-e SSD.
Or you could just buy it on disk...
1 hour it is then.

Same, if I were at home it would probably take about 50 hours. Also I would have my whole family complaining that I'm hogging the internet.

somewhere in the world, some poor sap is going to wait over 600 days to download this

I think they would get it on DVD if there internet was that terrible.

And if their internet was that terrible, chances are, they'd probably be living in a country where having the minimum specs to run the game is a luxury.
On my end with my 8 Mbps download, it'll probably take me 15-17 hours.

I'm firmly stuck between 256 and 512 kbps, i'm lucky to hit 400kbs during a download and usually it's around 350-360 on a good day. And that's without my modem going out at complete random. I think I need to replace this damn thing, because I can't even plausibly begin to think I can touch GTA5's download without needing the weeklong headstart.
EDIT: Although apparently Centurylink is very stingy about their modems and wouldn't like us replacing theirs with one of our own. Despite the problems they claim it's perfectly fine on their own. Bullshit.
i wish i could preload it but to do that i'd have to prepurchase it and i want to be absolutely sure it is well optimized before i buy it
One and a half hours.
Fuck yes.
