• System Requirements Lab Idea...

Hey facepunch, I had an idea for the well known SRL website. The idea is an FPS estimator. The purpose of this is to gather your hardware information and attempt to estimate what FPS you will get. For instance, if a large group of people upload their system hardware and their current FPS, settings, etc. for a game, then someone looking to gather data for their system who has similar specs of other people, system requirements lab can then average the uploaders who have similar specs for an estimation of average FPS. How does this sound to you guys? I thought it was a nice idea, but then again it might have no chance of working. But wouldn't it be cool to upload what hardware you have and see what kind of fps you are looking at getting?
Just make sure you get all of the graphics settings as part of the calculations. People mislead others by saying "yeah you can play [game] with [rig] 60 fps" and they really mean you'll mostly get that framerate when on the lowest settings

People can input their specs and their fps that they get, and people looking to get the game that they wish they can put in their hardware and see what settings they can go to and what fps they should get.
what does it matter? if your PC isn't archaic you will be able to run a modern game.. [editline]23rd June 2011[/editline] and for settings, you can just DL fraps and max it to see what fps you get..

My idea is an estimation [i]before[/i] you get the game using other peoples stats.
whats the point, games aren't even that demanding apart from crysis & metro 2033.. [editline]23rd June 2011[/editline] you would know if you couldn't run the game is what i was saying. the settings don't matter because you can change them on the fly to see if it's still playable
Could be useful for when you're looking at buying/building a new PC, and want to know what hardware you can get to get x FPS on y game.
Call it FPEstimator.
Haha, that's good Squarebob.
I know right?
