Steven Moffat: 'I've lied my arse off about 50th [Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special]"'
Steven Moffat has told Doctor Who fans that they shouldn't presume anything about this year's 50th anniversary episode, revealing at Comic-Con that he has "lied" continually about the upcoming special.
During the Doctor Who panel event at the San Diego fan convention, Moffat refused to comment on reports that John Barrowman's character Captain Jack wouldn't be involved in the anniversary, claiming that fans would have to wait and see which favourite characters would be involved.
When asked why Captain Jack isn't involved in the 50th, Moffat said: "You can't put everybody in the 50th. How do you know what is and what is not in the 50th?
"I have lied my arse off for months. You know nothing so don't make presumptions.
"It's always story-driven. If we have a great idea for Captain Jack, he'll come back. If we don't, he won't."
Earlier in the weekend at Comic-Con, Barrowman appeared at the Arrow panel and joked about the fact that he hadn't been invited back to Doctor Who for the 50th.
Meanwhile, Moffat also confirmed at Comic-Con that he hasn't picked his replacement for Matt Smith's Doctor yet.
The biggest news of all this? People are surprised.
This just in Moffat is still a massive dick. Not about this though, this is a pretty good tactic.
Watch them bring back Tom Baker.

i'm willing to bet a tenner than he'll do a voice-over and not actually appear in person.
i mean, he's the oldest living Doctor and has changed far more than the others have. Apart from maybe Colin Baker.
He lies because he keeps rewriting the script.

Or than he can't write a good one...
He should bring back the abzorbaloff just to piss everyone off
better have an Ainsley guest appearance

A good tactic? Yes. Gloating about how much shit he's been talking before anyone would've properly found out? Incredibly fucking stupid.
This thread is so british oh my god what the fuck is even happening?

Timey Wimey Stuff.
Maybe even no Daleks? Even the trailer that was shown at Comic-Con could be lies.

People are getting mad about a boring show that reuses enemies more than CoD.
better have an Ainsley guest appearance
That guy already died like 7 years ago.

Well they've filmed all of it, he's just lied about the facts.
Moffat is an absolutely horrible writer, who clearly knows little about Doctor Who lore. So I'm not holding my hopes up for the 50th anniversary special. Lying to your fanbase is unwise, it's better to keep quiet.
I can't wait for a 2 minute cameo of an old, confused Tom Baker being released onto the set.
they can just let him get drunk and wonder around a bit. It'll be like 70's Dr Who all over again!
Personally the little I know about the 50th the better. I'll enjoy it better that way.
I stopped watching this show because it became a really really awkwardly cringey space opera and I couldn't deal with it. I just want some of the silliness of Tennant. Moffat was a good guest writer, but god damn he pumped the show full of like 20 different simultaneous plot lines and really made me lose interest.

Moffat is a huge Doctor Who fan; there's this relic of a forum post of him from 1996 or something about him writing Doctor Who stories.

The silliness of Tennant was really offset by the awful episode-by-episode writing though.
I liked the first series of Smith, but now I just can't be bothered to sit down and watch it.

Some of the Tennant episodes were really good though. And Donna is still my favorite companion.

Smith is a great Doctor, but his character so poorly written often times and in general the writing is simply atrocious. The stories are largely crap, the logic is tenuous at best even by the standards of Doctor Who. Its awful.

And really, why does everyone act like Tennant was the silliest? Tennant played the Doctor as a mix between silly and serious. Smith is by far much sillier and goofier in his portrayal of the Doctor.

Smith plays it sillier, but the writing takes itself too seriously.
Tennant played it silly/serious, and the writing was silly/serious. It matched. Nowadays, it just doesn't.
Tennant is my favorite so far because his portrayal and the overall writing made his character seem more believable. Behind that silliness and constant fidgeting was a tortured individual that would show through from time to time. It was always interesting to see how he would react in certain situations.
I like Smith because he is fun and silly, but when they force him to be serious or emotional it can be a little awkward. I still love the show though and will watch it until it goes off the air.
