I wonder what the dispute is on Ubisoft vs Valve? One of the two being unreasonable on how much the other gets per sale, is my guess.
I think ubisoft (some, I dunno if all) games on steam like the AC ones are kinda pointless, it forces you to launch uplay anyway so eh
Huh, glad I held off pre-ordering The Crew. I hope those that did get a refund or a Uplay code.
You still have the games on steam, it's just that the store pages don't work.
I am plain and simple not buying a single other ubisoft game if it means I'd have to actually buy stuff through uplay. It's just not worth the effort.
If they don't make a deal soon, Ubisoft better be ready for a decline in PC sales.
Some guy on Reddit tried contacting Ubisoft about it and got this:
Chris @ Ubisoft Support 2014-11-06 19:33 GMT At this time Steam has removed the purchase option for Assassin's Creed: Unity. Unfortunately we do not have the information as to why they have removed the ability. Usually these issues are caused by purchasing problems and are resolved quickly. For more information, I would recommend contacting Steam's support team to verify at what time the option to purchase will be returned.
Reminds me of when Crysis 2 was removed from Steam and EA blamed Valve for it. Wonder if we'll ever know what really happened.
Making your product less accessible to the consumer in the digital world makes piracy rise. GG Ubisoft, you have just practically hammered the final nail in the coffin with that one. Hardly anyone is going to buy your fucking games if they have to download your special client for it on top of the other, more popular ones.
"In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase the game digitally can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other digital distributors."
Fuck. You.
I wish publishers would seriously be a bit more talkative when it came to these sorts of things, not just continually telling us the other party is at fault Remember when Bulletstorm was pulled off steam without a word, then put back on steam without a word? What was going on there?
I don't even buy ubi games on PC anymore because the ports have been so abysmal. Or any ubi game for that matter except maybe Far Cry 4
I think ubisoft (some, I dunno if all) games on steam like the AC ones are kinda pointless, it forces you to launch uplay anyway so eh
The best part about uPlay games on Steam is the fact it requires both Steam and uPlay to be running. You can't just fire up uPlay and play a Ubisoft game or fire up Steam and start one. Maybe Valve and Ubisoft should team up and release a game on Origin that requires both uPlay and Steam to be running in addition to Origin.
I don't even buy ubi games on PC anymore because the ports have been so abysmal. Or any ubi game for that matter except maybe Far Cry 4
Far Cry 3 and Black Flag weren't horrible ports. Those are the only recent Ubi games I've played though.
Can't wait until they blame piracy when their games don't sell as well if they stayed on steam.
Far Cry 3 and Black Flag weren't horrible ports. Those are the only recent Ubi games I've played though.
Far Cry 3 was good, but Black Flag was optimized like ass. Which is why I'm still open to FC4
Far Cry 3 was good, but Black Flag was optimized like ass.
And still is
Huh, Black Flag ran at 40+ FPS for me on high/med settings with a GTX 260 and a Q9550.
Yeah, I had no issues running Black Flag. Anyway, there was that article a day ago about how they weren't going to be on Steam in the UK, which was said most likely stemmed from Ubisoft trying to sell their games for like 25% more than other games on Steam at £49.99, where as almost all others come in at or below £39.99. And apparently on the Xbone and PS4 they're going for £54.99. So yeah, seems like Ubisoft is trying to rip as much money from people as they can.
I think ubisoft (some, I dunno if all) games on steam like the AC ones are kinda pointless, it forces you to launch uplay anyway so eh
having to run 2 programs just to play my game (well, I could just run it on uplay and that's it technically) is such BS
i had 2 ubi games pre-ordered on steam this sucks. will i get my money back or soemthing
i had 2 ubi games pre-ordered on steam this sucks. will i get my money back or soemthing
You still have the games on steam.
i had 2 ubi games pre-ordered on steam this sucks. will i get my money back or soemthing
You'll get your money back, right?
They're operating from a position of supply and demand. Basically, since there is a large demand and fanbase for their games, they're charging more. However, that only really works when there is a limited supply. In the case of digital distribution there isn't and it's just sorta dumb. Right now their prices are above the inflation rate, and there's an unlimited supply making the price hitch dumb. I can see why they would want to charge more (the games being in high demand), but with the unlimited supply there's no real reason to, unless it's to actually keep up with inflation rates.
Good riddance.
i had 2 ubi games pre-ordered on steam this sucks. will i get my money back or soemthing
You don't loose the game if you already bought it, they just pulled it from the store for purchasing.

Guess I'm not buying AC Unity, then. Shame.
i understand that they would have to pay like 30-40% to steam for their sales but surely publishing the game themselves is not worth it
You don't loose the game if you already bought it, they just pulled it from the store for purchasing.
Since I preordered the gold edition of Assassin's Creed: Unity, if they withhold even a single inch of pixel I've paid for, I'm going to burn down their HQ
