From a legal standpoint, how has this site managed to stay up for as long as it has when it makes it virtually explicit that it is used specifically for illegal actions, anyway?
A LOT of backup sites.
Speaking of which, it's already online again from an alternate domain.

The media has done more to encourage and inform people of piracy than the attempts to curtail it can possibly handle. There's been over a 100% spike in piracy since TPB's first closure. All thanks to the media. So when he sees a site being downed, the man probably laughs and just starts counting the media reports.
Speaking of which, it's already online again from an alternate domain.
Seems to not be an official one, by the looks of it, if you mean the Costa Rica one. Some information's have placeholders, and a lot of links end in a 404 page that is different from the usual tpb pages. But the magnet links seem to be legitimate. [editline]11th December 2014[/editline] Judging by the whois, it's probably not the official one, so be careful.

Pretentious pieces of shit think they're all high and mighty by not letting people in. EDIT: Oh hey, there's a TPB archive (Old Pirate Bay) online now. Well, it's not totally an archive since people are uploading new stuff there too. EDIT 2: ThePirateBay.cr is also functioning now and I'm so confused. Help.

Which is why nothing but getting the magnet links works...
