So I'm having this weird problem with my gamepad. I bought a cheapo Speedlink PS style pad for emulator games but the input is completely fucked. This is ONLY on my PC, I tested it on the laptop and it works like a charm.
Now my PC doesn't have any other input or performance issues, there is no lag in anything ever. But the gamepad input freezes up in intervals of about 3-5 seconds. It just won't detect any axis movement, button press or depress, it literally freezes up for about a whole second and then updates and works like normal for another 3-5 seconds.
The Problem is not tied to any specific game, it is always present for as long as the pad is connected since the input lags even in the calibration menu. Again, no other input devices or software ever have any lag whatsoever. I tried all sorts of drivers, all USB ports, front, back, 2.0, 3.0, nothing helps. I monitored the task manager for performance spikes or weird resource usage by some program or service, nothing. Both my laptop (where everything works fine) and my PC run win7 and are perfectly up to date.
Naturally, google gave me nothing. People either have lag in all devices or only during gameplay. Any thoughts, FP?
I assume it's wired not wireless. It's hard to think of what to suggest, I would mainly make sure that your computer is using the exact same driver as the one your laptop uses when you plug it into there. The only other thing it could be is a background program causing problems or a setting in the BIOS. You could try updating your BIOS although I'm not certain it would help.
If you're desperate to play emulator games with it, you could install linux side by side with Windows, check that your gamepad is compatible first by using a linux live usb/CD
Well, compared both, no difference driver wise. Tried official, third party and windows drivers, updated chipset drivers and made sure I didn't skip any windows updates. Disabled all sorts of background services and programs, cleaned up the system and registry, nothing.
The problem is still there and it's kinda worrying me. USB input devices are kind of a basic function, this sorta shit is supposed to work flawless, I can't see why it shouldn't. My pc is NOT overclocked or anything either.
Update:
When I install a 3rd party PS3 controller driver (MotioninJoy) it works without any lag but the assignments are all fucked.
I'm guessing the windows default driver is the root of it all. Are there any alternatives?
You should be able to fix the assignments manually, you can also try setting it to emulate an xbox controller
