Hey guys, I'm planning on getting these early next year in march.
So far here's what I'm planning to get.
CPU : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115224
Mobo : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131658
Ram : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227616
Thoughts? Got something better I can get?
Would much rather get this one

And then again, I would rather wait for SB.
Do you really need an i7? if you are only gaming get a i5 750-760, also unless you are overclocking that motherboard is completely useless, and the RAM is completely overpriced.

Why is there a huge damn price difference between them though? Whats different about that one? Seems identical to me.

I do plan on overclocking. And I want to get something I can keep for atleast two years.
Difference is 133 MHz, so it's absolutely not worth it.
But if you're buying it in march, wait for march and then bump this thread.

If you plan on keeping it for at least 2 years wait for Sandy Bridge and Bulldozer which should be released before the end of this year if i recall correctly.

Meh, I don't really plan on waiting that long. Plus, New sockets tend to be seriously expensive. Much rather get a 1336 right now that is worth keeping for atleast two years.

It's going to be released early next year. The OP said he was going to get the stuff in March.

Well if it does get released before or a few months after, I'll wait and see the prices. I bet by then the 950 has probably gotten cheaper as well. Lets hope the prices are decent.
Do you even need an i7? Do you do anything demanding besides gaming?

Well, not really. My main concern is I want a CPU I can keep for the next year or two to come without needing to upgrade to max out new games.
Not worth it to get an i7 then. There's no difference at all in games. Wait for SB.
I have an Intel Q9650 and a GTX 480, and for some reason I cant max out Metro 2033, it gets laggy. Thought it was time for an upgrade. :/

There is no single GPU that can max out Metro, even the 580 struggles at 19-21 FPS.

Well that's just sad. Maybe triple SLI 580's.

It's not about your system, Metro just happens to be coded very badly and has shitty optimizations. One game isn't worth upgrading for.

Well I guess that makes sense. Looks like I'll wait for the new sockets then.

They have indeed played the game maxed out with (Tripple?) SLI, but only barely, maybe the 6990 and/or the 595 will make it playable with a single card.
metro ran incredibly well for me on my e6750 and 5770 on fairly high settings.

Yea, fairly high settings, but full AA and full DX11 is quite a bit harder to run, it brings my 5770 to its knees with a AMD X4 955
my 5770 got prison raped when I tried to run it on anything higher than high settings at 1280x1024

best deal

I'd like to contest that.

custom settings =! max
also it has no AA
I know for a fact that that's not max, because there's no way a 5870 can average 61fps on 1080p resolution
Neither of those were at 1080p one was higher.
Also enabling AA would only shave 20-30 fps off, at 1680x1050 he'd be fine.
whoops misread the resolution
still it's probably just high settings, not very high
because on my GTX 280 SLI (which I would say is comparable to a 5870) at 1680x1050 at very high I get ~30-40 fps
I can get on high settings no AA with 3 monitors, I'm sure a gtx 580 can max it out with no physx (Keep your old video card and dedicate it to physx)
