Me and my friend were joking about one of those do not eat packets and I ended up opening one and pouring the Gel balls into hand sanitizer and I shook it up (so a different friend would use it thinking it was the kind with the balls). When i finished shaking it the hand sanitizer was the consistency of water...
Anyone know why this happened? Does it happen if you just shake hand sanitizer?
I don't know, but you might not want to continue with this prank, should it burn your skin off.
Haha i made a sweet candle out of it. No more to prank with.
There is a reason they say if you have skin contact to immediately wash hands, that shits bad. With hand sanitizer you'll be rubbing a liquefied form onto your skin which will immediately dry and start draining the skin of moisture. The initial symptoms would be those of any chemical burn, dry itchy flaking skin, red skin, burning sensation, possibly start bleeding if not taken care of fast enough.
Be it for a prank or just an experiment, dont do it.

You can eat the contents of a "Do Not Eat" packet. It's basically sand. They are nearly 100% non-toxic and the small percent that's not is too little to do any harm.
And yes i did breathe the fabulous vapors.
Silica gel is used to absorb water from gases. The gel itself is comparatively harmless, although silica dust is harmful if inhaled. However, silica gel often contains a small amount of an added chemical to indicate whether the gel is still effective at absorbing water. This indicator may be cobalt (II) chloride, which changes from blue when the product is dry, to pink when it is nearly exhausted. Cobalt compounds are suspected of being carcinogenic, and may cause sensitization or an allergic reaction, so care should be taken that silica gel is not inhaled.
Sounds delicious bro
Yes, you can eat something that says Do not eat, brilliant.

So much stupid it hurts, the kind of people who end up on
if you’ve eaten one by mistake, you’ll likely be fine. According to Mike Yudizky, a recently retired paramedic and the public health educator at the North Texas Poison Control Center, “It’s nothing more than a type of sand. Despite the big-time warnings, it’s completely nontoxic.” Even if you were to eat a shoebox full of packets, the only result would be “an upset tummy. But the same would happen if you drank too much water.”

So why do the packets include warnings, occasionally including a skull and crossbones? To avoid product liability cases, says Yudizky. The packets are “harmful if swallowed by an infant or pet, as they could choke or aspirate on the silicon gel packet,”

In some cases, the stuff is coated with a moisture indicator such as cobalt (II) chloride, a toxic substance that may be carcinogenic. But Yudizky says even that wouldn’t be a problem because of the incredibly small amount involved.
That's what I read.
EDIT: Let's get back to the point... does anyone know what chemical reaction happened here?
