[release] Baby Throwing Festival Facing Ban India A festival in Bijapur district which involves throwing babies from the top of a 9-metre Hindu temple onto a blanket held by revellers is facing a ban after drawing the ire of authorities. Tossing a baby is said to confer a long healthy life. "As I am new to the district, I did not know about the unusual ritual, which is inhuman and terrifying for babies. I intend to prevent the people from indulging in such acts next time," said deputy commissioner R Shantharaj. India has a wide range of superstitions and festivals. A ban on a stone-throwing ritual, during which fatalities and injuries are not uncommon, triggered riots earlier this year. Eventually authorities were unable to prevent the event occurring. Let them do what they want, if you ask me. It doesn't really seem too dangerous, regarding how a newborn doesn't even weight a lot.
what the fuck
This doesn't look THAT dangerous.
Their neck muscles haven't developed enough yet so they CAN get injuries, that's why you always have to support their head when you hold 'em.
As long as nobody gets hurt, I don't see how is there anything wrong with this. There are much more dangerous sports going on, and the parents should able to take care of their babies.
This doesn't look THAT dangerous.
The skeleton of a baby is extremely weak. I am suprised that the babies didn't suffer any fractures.
Their neck muscles haven't developed enough yet so they CAN get injuries, that's why you always have to support their head when you hold 'em.
That depends on the age of the babies. If they throw newborn babies, it could be dangerous, but about 1 year old baby is probably safe.
Who came up with this idea?
The skeleton of a baby is extremely weak. I am suprised that the babies didn't suffer any fractures.
Its a cloth. not the sidewalk.
Probably Heavy, come to think of it.. [editline]06:46AM[/editline] Automerge....
"As I am new to the district" I love this. He's new, comes in, doesn't like tradition and so tries to fuck it over.
I don't see any problem with that. It's a tradition. Noone got hurt in 500 years. So what's the matter? Measuring who's got the longest banhammer or what?
:iia:
Let them do it if that's what they want, with a 500 year non-serious/fatal record, they can't really say shit about it.
sick fucks
I don't see any problem with that. It's a tradition. Noone got hurt in 500 years. So what's the matter? Measuring who's got the longest banhammer or what?
It was tradition to burn people that you thought were witches at one stage, same with religious heretics.
snipped
More like baby dropping than throwing, I was expecting something more like this:
That was Awesome...
Michael Jackson would be proud.
"As I am new to the district" I love this. He's new, comes in, doesn't like tradition and so tries to fuck it over.
Not all tradition is good. Lets just cling to the past huh? That's a good plan for steady development away from stoneage bullshit.
The skeleton of a baby is extremely weak. I am suprised that the babies didn't suffer any fractures.
Its is extremely strong, since it has not fully hardened. Most of a baby's bone structure is cartilage, which is bendy and soft and would seldom snap. That is why young kids heal faster, and why if a baby has a broken bone it usually means child abuse.

micheal jackson like to practise without the cloth
...You're seriously trying to tell us a new born baby has an extremely strong bone structure?
For an extreme analogy, think that a babies bones are made of rubber. It bends, wont break easily. Your bones are made out of wood. Strong, but snaps eventually.
Well, that guy dropping and catching seem pretty experienced, and they drop the babies flat on their backs.. So I don't see what could go wrong. Of course it's a silly tradition and I sure as hell wouldn't participate in it, but it looks safe, so I can't really have a problem with it. There are too many other fucked up things in the world for this to have any kind of priority.
Looks fun, I wanna have a go Not at dropping a baby but at jumping off into the cloth
Bouncing baby.
It was tradition to burn people that you thought were witches at one stage, same with religious heretics.
Oh my god, a retort that doesn't use :godwin: I love you
